    genocide

Seriously though we could invite the Africans to live here as slaves to the 1% - that might help

Most of the countries with higher fertility rates are disproportionately poor; either they'll going to level off eventually due to a lack of resources or we're ****ed.

It should go without saying that not all poor countries have high population growth rates.

Ukraine is poorer than Mexico yet has a declining population. It also is way less violent than Mexico despite being in an actual real war (facing an existential crisis).

Same can be said about the rest of Eastern Europe.

It is well known that Americans consume far more natural resources and live much less sustainably than people from any other large country of the world. “A child born in the United States will create thirteen times as much ecological damage over the course of his or her lifetime than a child born in Brazil,” reports the Sierra Club’s Dave Tilford, adding that the average American will drain as many resources as 35 natives of India and consume 53 times more goods and services than someone from China.

Tilford cites a litany of sobering statistics showing just how profligate Americans have been in using and abusing natural resources. For example, between 1900 and 1989 U.S. population tripled while its use of raw materials grew by a factor of 17. “With less than 5 percent of world population, the U.S. uses one-third of the world’s paper, a quarter of the world’s oil, 23 percent of the coal, 27 percent of the aluminum, and 19 percent of the copper,” he reports. “Our per capita use of energy, metals, minerals, forest products, fish, grains, meat, and even fresh water dwarfs that of people living in the developing world.”

He adds that the U.S. ranks highest in most consumer categories by a considerable margin, even among industrial nations. To wit, American fossil fuel consumption is double that of the average resident of Great Britain and two and a half times that of the average Japanese. Meanwhile, Americans account for only five percent of the world’s population but create half of the globe’s solid waste.

Feel free to watch the Ted Talks with Melinda Gates. It is a cut and dry issue.

African women mostly do not want to have so many children. They want to have access to birth control but do not. In Germany, 66% of women use birth control. In Nigeria and Congo, two of the largest nations, less than 10% of women have access to it and men force them to have more babies than they can provide a good life for. I think the average is 5.2 kids per child.

It is about providing the option and doing away with stigma's in a continent riddled with poverty, disease and misinformation. But to do that there must first be a consensus that birth control (all the various forms) need to be readily available like penicillin.

You do know what will happen if this issue isn't addressed, right? No one will suffer more than Africans.

The colonial overtones in this post are disturbing.

Africa is a continent defined by it's characteristics, not skin color.

Right now, those characteristics are heading towards disaster. With nearly half the population in poverty, disease, corruption and rape a huge obstacle to rich and poor, an exploding population with a limited infrastructure increase these issues and put the strain on Western governing bodies to provide hundreds of millions in aid they shouldn't have to. And that still won't be enough - the situation has been getting progressively worse.

Birth control has to be accessible to each and every African woman. She should be allowed to have a say over the size of her family. That isn't the reality now. Men are forcing them to have larger and larger families - 5.2 kids in many parts. Incentives for smaller families should be available until resources aren't strained and less than a quarter of the continent is in poverty.

If Melinda Gates and intelligent Africans are saying this, why does that intimidate you? Measures much more drastic than what is going on now need to be taken, and that starts with reducing the stigma around birth control.

Please tell me what you think are the characteristics of the entire continent of Africa.

People who have been born and have a life calling people who don't exist a problem. Why did you have the right to be born but you don't give that right to others? Ridiculous.

Also, why nobody tried to stop China and India population explosion but as soon as Africans explode it's a "problem."

As far as I'm concerned all living things have a right to create more living things and no living thing can deny that. If it kills the species or planet so be it.

I don't know if its so much a "Hey you stop having babies" as it is there are lots of women around the world who would probably prefer not to have so many children (It's a real hardship especially if you're poor) but either 1) lack access to contraceptives or 2) lack the sexual education which would help reduce their chances of getting pregnant (natural planning etc..)

That's unfortunate and we can attempt to change it.

Okay so end poverty. Don't avoid it by forcing living things to not have more living things. It's unnatural.

seem like when you're poor or living in an underdeveloped country, there's nothing better to do than popping out 5, 6 kids to kill time?

Well I don't think humanity is going to be able to end poverty but maybe we can be somewhat effective bringing sexual education/contraceptives to the masses

To be fair Africa is extremely ethnically diverse. I guess it's the equivalent of defining Europe as the white continent. I mean it is, but it is also dismissive of the diversity within it. Africa has FAR more diversity than Europe does as well. It's a massive ****ing place.

When I think of Africa I tend to think of the ethnic groups over the skin color. I think the same way when I think of Nigeria like what the OP is talking about. There are major ethnic/tribal and religious groups vying for control in Nigeria and being black isn't something that binds them together as a society as a whole.

I know OP wasn't thinking about all that when he posted, but it's just a little pet peeve of mine when we think of Africa from an American perspective and not from an African perspective...if that makes sense. Again....I know the OP certainly wasn't thinking from that perspective either.

I’ve always thought the solution to overpopulation was to make regional versions of Sex in the City, all over those parts of the world with too many pregnancies. You just gotta convince every woman in the world that Mr. Right is somewhere out there waiting for them, with riches far beyond their wildest dreams.
