This season is on Morey. How did we know these free agent signings sucked and he didn't?

The NBA did not like post play because players had control over scoring inside one on one, so they implemented three seconds in the paint, five seconds back to the basket and flopping calls to completely eliminate post play. These freedom of movement foul calls are just another way for the refs to control the outcome of the game. The NBA can’t even control the outcome of the game against teams like the Rockets so they kept adding rules to hurt us every single off-season. In the last five off seasons Rockets have completely changed the way the game is officiated.

I would even argue that the new offensive rebound rule resetting the shot clock to 14 seconds was implemented to hurt the Rockets even though we are not a strong rebounding team. Because we shoot so many threes we can get offensivr rebounds and in game seven of the WCF, the Rockets almost one even with the officials helping the Warriors Soley because we grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, specifically PJ Tucker who got 8 offensive boards. The NBA can’t control where the ball bounces to and who grabs it so they add a rule to make offensive rebounds less vsluable.

True but it’s supposed to apply to all teams...maybe we should adjust a bit instead of keep doing same thing; I mean the league won’t change for us

Luc can’t even play NBA basketball anymore and Ariza was ridiculously overpriced. Replacing them with Ennis was a great move. We’ve just gotten unlucky with injuries and yes, Morey needs to fix our depth. But signing Melo was a worthy risk imo. Didn’t work, that’s fine. Just have to fix things now

Chris Paul getting injured is not unlucky.

How often do you think the big 3 will be playing with Chris Paul's old ass?

    .

He was left bargain hunting because of the tax issues - they are $10m over the tax line with a $16m tax bill as currently constructed.
If it wasn't about money , I think Morey would have kept Ariza because he was the glue that held it all together , he cost you no assets to retain other than the tax bill and you didn't have any means of acquiring a comparable replacement other than the T-MLE (which isn't spent) and minimum contracts.

Its fairly obvious he was handcuffed by ownership here.

Also there weren't many high quality wings on the market to begin with, He got Ennis who would be a great bench player here but has been forced to start. He took a flyer on a veteran minimum Melo and MCW …. cant complain , maybe they catch lightning in a bottle for a year. Nothing lost with those two moves even tho it didn't work out.

I expect them to move Melo if at all possible for no incoming salary to a team that will buy him out , lowering the tax bill … I expect Chriss to be gone by the deadline too. I could also see EG being moved for a player on a rookie deal that a team isn't going to resign that player ... and potentially Knight shipped out at the expense of assets.

Looking back , its Ryno's contract that has left us saddled with the corpse of Knight and his contract.

I seriously doubt the MLE is used at all ….it just puts them deeper into the tax. The buy out market is just an excuse.

I wish Les hadn't sold the team …. I think things would be different. He'd have paid for a winner.

I didn't give Morey the benefit of a doubt about MCW. There was no way it was going to work especially with a team like the Rockets.
It would be better if he signed noone over MCW.

We can blame the free agents signing this summer, but I think our problem is our old philosophy is biting us: rebuild while not losing, we can only sign second or third max contracts, which in general is much less value than rookie contracts or first max contracts in two ways: the same player becomes older and earn more, which further limit us to sign role players for a slightly over value contract, also not much laddering rookie contracts. Morey tried his best to dangle around this by signing cheaper role players, but that just so much he can do, sometime he hits, sometime he misses.

I did not see anything from MCW right about when he signed other than he attacked the basket fairly well in the preseason.

He wasn't a fit at all. It's just not the type of player this team would want.

I was surprised by Ennis, he is not a total scrub and better than I thought, but still not a game changer.

Why not , it was a minimum contract …. if nothing else his contract is an expiring trade filler.

If he caught fire …. great.

tilman is on record stating that if he's paying lux tax for a non-contender then he has the wrong GM

Morey's work has been getting worse and worse. Anderson's contract was a big mistake, but Paul's contract is unforgivable. To this we must add the conformation of the worst bench in the league. Conclusion: Morey is not justifying what Houston pays for his work.
The time has come for Morey to find solutions, otherwise, the Rockets should look for someone to find them.

Or the players are just not smart enough to grasp his new ideas for the new year.

The 8-2 stretch happened when he did a part time job.

Maybe he should stay a part timer.

Right but I do not agree with a firing during the season. Everything else sounds reasonable.

Morey has been dodging bullets by luck since he got here. These are some of the player he wanted to offer max contracts but never got, Nene and Gasol, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Vince Carter, Gordon Hayward...
