Child separation and tear gassing of mobs attempting to breach the border happened under Obama as well. I'm not opposed to either of these policies fwiw. Because the alternative creates a worse outcome (uncontrolled mass migration).
Horrendous, Appalling, Disgusting My daughter is about this age. The thought of her being tear gassed for seeking asylum brings no words.
It's not as bad as it looks. Notice multiple camera men in the background staging other photos as many others stand around. The video is more telling.
Still images are much more valuable than video a lot of the time when it comes to propaganda because video often can include unintended context that undermines the message the propaganda is trying to convey. A single image captures a single moment in time divorced from every factor that led up to that moment. With that in mind, it's not surprising to me that MSNBC went with pictures over video.
"Staging". How many times do we see photos of things happening from folks with cell phones? And curious... "its not as bad as it looks"? How bad does this look? btw, the United States shot tear gas into another country.
the article linked above says these types of incidents were common in the 80s and 90s until the Clinton administration clamped down on illegal immigration. Your claim was "This is the America trump has created." I don't see either how Trump "created" this situation or "false whataboutism." on edit: Commodore beat me to it
So, the trump admin didn't order the border the US Border patrol to shoot tear gas into women and children? So did they do this on their own? Or are you claiming former President Obama gave the orders? I'd sure like to see your links supporting this claim... otherwise, its specious, as with most whataboutisms to defend trump.
btw, the repeated posting of the photo with the children and the tear gas/pepper spray canister is a fairly transparent appeal to emotion. N.B., This observation does IN NO WAY imply an approval of tear gassing of children and/or an endorsement of anything for that matter. But the appeal to emotion usually masks a weak or non-existing argument when used in place of discussion.
So again, former President Obama went back into a time machine into the 80's and 90's to order these "incidents." Because that was Commodore's claim...
So your complaint is with the repeated posting of the photo of US Border Patrol firing tear gas at mothers and children in Mexico?
they aren't being tear gassed for seeking asylum. equating these folks with those who go through the legal process of seeking asylum is insulting to those who actually obey our laws.
Zoom into the background. Why isn't her desperation shared by everyone? Why are the only people in motion directly in front of a camera man? Why is everyone else just hanging out?
fwiw the classic examples of film/photos being used to influence and/or manipulate peoples' emotions in political discussions are the film Silent Scream in the abortion debate and Brian Davies film footage for IFAW of Newfoundland sealers clubbing baby seals in the 70s and 80s. yes, "it's like clubbing baby seals." -- Clyde Spoiler: more here https://books.google.com/books?id=eZ6Tmr2PaHcC&pg=PA131&lpg=PA131&dq=douglas+walton+appeal+to+pity+silent+scream+baby+seals&source=bl&ots=ON5aQSY1UH&sig=bJ8ay3HLTu6ouvKAte443b5BqxU&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwijrZvwvPLeAhXCnuAKHfZsBIEQ6AEwCHoECAMQAQ#v=onepage&q=douglas walton appeal to pity silent scream baby seals&f=false
They aren't? Why is that mother and her two children being teargassed? What law did the three of them break?
of course. if a pack of one hundred woman and children were trying to break into your house, what do you feel the police should do? Good job changing the topic btw The question that should be asked is why this lady is charging a fence with her kids? why not walk up to the port of entry in a legal manner? Dont bring your kids when breaking the law.
I don't know. I do know I am clearly seeing a woman and two children running from an exploded tear gas canister. What I don't know is why it was fired towards her?
really? you dont? because shes trying to break the law and invade with a mob of other people. Not complicated. seriously? they tried to charge the fence and break through it. legal process is to walk up to the port of entry and ask for asylum. That is not what this is.
