I would’ve loved to have this stat available during the Rafer Alston years. I’m guessing it was something like 0/4523 (0.00%)
Usage rate 30% today. He is getting more touches each game. Banged with knees in 3rd but returned in 4th. His finishing at rim with contact was great this game
what i find impressive is how well he uses his size on finishes, especially for a 19yr old what i don't appreciate is the obvious promotion from the league, b/c no other 19yr old is getting that call against PG13, much less the no-call charge on abrines
Currently there are 43 players averaging 15 or more field goal attempts. Here are the top-10 in TS%: 1. Stephen Curry (age 30) 2. Kevin Durant (age 30) 3. Tobias Harris (age 26) 4. Damian Lillard (age 28) 5. Luka Doncic (age 19) 6. Kawhi Leonard (age 27) 7. Kemba Walker (age 28) 8. Kyrie Irving (age 26) 9. LeBron James (age 34) 10. Joel Embiid (age 24)
Luka being good seemed as no brainer a thing as there was. The question on how good is still up for debate. He’s only 19... but then a “mature” 19 in terms of understanding the game at a professional level.
All hail Luka Doncic, the new Point God Doncic got to play point guard full time for the first time all season and damn if he didn’t just punk the best defense in the NBA
LOL at least he deserves the hype, unlike Trae "Curry" Young who is annointed Steph Curry 2.0 despite shooting 23% from 3.
i don't live in the states for the most part, so i haven't heard the hype on trae, actually never even heard of him prior to the draft. so my post is just based on watching him a few times now and what his potential could be. quickness and court vision are clearly elite level imo
Soo...haven't posted on my favourite NBA fan site in about two weeks now After writing on a Slovenian Facebook site on NBA for two years now we started doing podcasts, of course main theme is our countryman Luka, but I've been able to represent Houston a few times! A bit unpopular in Slovenia due to Harden (flops, travels etc....), so I'm hoping to expand the horizon of our NBA enthusiasts on Rockets! But let's get down tu "business". I won't post all the highlights as the post would be loooong. Only the one from yesterday's win Last highlights on Luka in this thread were from OKC game on Nov 11. Since then, Dallas went 5-1 and Luka was a big part of that. Win against Chicago (103-98), Luka's worst game so far - 11 points on 3-12 shooting, 6rb and 3ast. He hit a big 4th quarter three, but other than that it was a forgettable game where bench carried the team. Drubbing against Utah (118-68) was the only other Luka's "bad" game so far...probably because we expect 20/6/4 every game now He had 13/6/2 on 5-13 shooting in 25 minutes. Win against GSW (112 - 109) was of course the biggest win of the season so far with Luka being Dallas' top scorer with 24/9/4 on 9/20 shooting (2-8 from three). Loss against Memphis (88-98) was a bit unfortunate, as Dallas hang with Grizzlies until middle of 4th quarter. Luka had a mediocre game with 15/10/3 on 6-20 shooting (3-9 from three). Win against Nets (119-113) - a good game from Luka. 21/9/4 on 5-11 shooting and 2-3 from three, with one great pass that shows his very high IQ - You can find video analysis of that pass on bottom of this post. That video is really nicely done, you don't want to miss it! Win against Boston (113 - 104). So Luka has been playing point forward for most of the season, sharing ball with one of Dallas' PG at all times. This time though, Dennis Smith JR. sat the game out due to injured hand, and Carlisle went with a BIG starting lineup where noone was under 6'8''. So, Luka starts at PG for the first time this season, and of course he had to do it against best defense in whole NBA. How did he fare? In first 8 minutes he had 9 points and five assists, punking Boston's defense left and right, breaking ankles OFF THE DRIBBLE and sending Kyre to another dimension on his fake-stepback three with 2 seconds left on shot clock (video on bottom of this post). He cooled off a bit after that, mainly because JJ Barea took over and Luka slid back to 2/3 position. He finished with 15/0/8 on 5-11 shooting (3/4 from three), 3 steals and one block. Of course he didn't have an ideal game - the one time where he dribbled out the clock and ended the possession with an airball was something you would never expect of him. Let's hope he won't repeat that, ever He also finished with 0 rebounds, which is quite strange for his caliber of rebounder. Few impressons from first 18 games, but mostly from when Dallas turned the corner with OKC game and went from 3-8 to 9-9: - Luka is, IMO, currently favourite for ROTY. If Suns start winning and Ayton gets to 20/10/3 on 60% shooting by end of the year, I can see him "dethroning" Luka. But given Luka's play so far...I don't see that happening. Especially because: - Luka leads all Dallas' scorers in 4th quarters of games. That might change now that Barnes found his groove, but it's a fantastic stat for a rookie. Then again, we have to stop treating Luka as a rookie. He has been playing against grown man for three years now. - Luka is Dallas' best player right now and I don't see anyone surpassing him. Barnes is a scoring machine, but he has tunnel vision. Barea is best PG off the bench in whole NBA, but there are lots of things he can't do and Luka can, mainly because of his size (rebounds, defense, post-ups). DeAndre Jordan still isn't playing hard on all possessions and is far from the defender he once was in Clippers. So, two videos I promised. First is video analysis of a possession from Nets' game three days ago: Second, the stepback-fake on Irving (Kyre was visibly mad about that, which was evident on next few possessions): Thanks for making it until here!
He clearly has elite vision but he doesn't have anywhere near elite quickness, if he had that then his FG% would be higher since he could blow by defenders and make layups at the rim. This is also the reason why he shot ok in college but can't get off his shot now in the pros. Trae didn't forget how to shoot its just he is too slow to get separation from his man in the NBA.
i'll have to watch him again as the season goes on, but from what i've seen he was getting by his man with ease on 1st step alone. problem was finishing in the paint. maybe as he fills out and gets stronger. his shot selection also isn't the best, as he's not the shooter curry is. but curry is probably one of the top few shooters all time, and certainly the best from well beyond the arc so that's certainly a tall order to match. and young does have far better court vision than curry. in all honesty young looks like a dumbass millennial to me so it's not like i'm particularly rooting for him to be great, just commenting on what i've seen from his game so far
I've seen that too. He's quick enough, but too short to finish over tall players effectively. Another point of view is he has all the freedom in the world. They traded Shroder and gave him keys to the offense. Other players are either standing in the corner, waiting for an outlet pass; running around the screens to get open; or playing p&r with Young. Josh Jackson of Phoenix Suns had the same freedom in 2nd half of last season and his numbers were great for a rookie. Now when he has to produce in limited minutes, he regressed. When Atlanta gets better players and gets asked to win more games, will Young still be able to produce at such a high level?
Not hype, but facts: Leaders in %FG during clutch minutes, which are last 5 minutes of the game or in overtime with score difference being 5 points or less: 1. Victor Oladipo 63.6% 2. Luka Dončić 57.9% 3. Evan Fournier 57.1% 4. Giannis Antetokounmpo 53.3% 5. Eric Bledsoe 52.6% 6. JJ Redick 51.9% 7. Kyrie Irving 51.2% 8-9. Jimmy Butler 50% 8-9. Nikola Jokic 50% 10. Marc Gasol 47.8% Luka is producing 3.6 points in clutch minutes, which ranks him 6th behind Kyre Irving.
But the whole point of having quickness is supposed to let small guys shoot the ball, if he has a great first step that allows him to blow by his guy then he should be able to finish in the paint cuz he has no one guarding him. Being small or having strength doesn't really have anything to do with it since Iverson is even smaller than Young and KD couldn't even do a bench press his rookie year but he finished fine. Maybe he just looks quick from observation but he really isn't since his FG is so low. I mean comparing him to Curry is such a joke he is not even hitting 3s at an average NBA player level, he is shooting in the 20% range lol. It is only acceptable now since Atlanta is tanking but if they want to win they have to replace him with a better player.
