Melo MCW NeNe Chriss Edwards Knight Qi They have no backup PG, so when CP gets hurt that leaves Harden and Gordon to get cooked by quicker point guards. They have no one taller than 6-8 outside of Capela and his backup leaving the PF position vulnerable to bigger rebounders. This issue compounded with switch all defense gets even worse. It was much better when the Rockets had more size and length at the 4 with Ariza, Luc, and Anderson early last season. 3 out of 7 of the shooters in the rotation (Green, Clark, and Gordon) are shooting 29% from 3, Gordon is 24%. For a team that shoots so many threes this adds up. Tonight against the Cavs, the Rockets ran a 7 man rotation on a back to back with CP3 out. Mike D'Antoni is already in playoff form and it's not even December. Hartenstein only played 2 minutes on a back to back. He or Chriss are worthy of minutes, no? No way the Rockets make it to the playoffs healthy.
Roster balance is definitely out of whack, but injuries and guy no longer with the team still on the roster are factors. Knight coming back at some point in time helps fill that guard void. I'm assuming after Knight is healthy the Rockets FO will cut MCW and pick up some sort of wing. Then at some point Melo's roster spot will also open up via trade or being waived, and the team will look to fill that too.
Knight ain’t helping fill ****. He will get to sit next to Chriss and Hilario and MCW while the Rockets starters play 40 minutes a game. There is no solution to the Rockets issues on the roster.
“Well maybe the Wizards will take some draft picks for Beal or maybe we can add Kevin Love. There has to be another star available.”
If Knight is healthy and back to form, one can do much worse at backup PG. I would say that it would be bad if the Rockets coaching staff can't carve out a 12-15 mpg role for a solid ball handler who is a career 35.7% 3PT shooter when there is a need for a backup guard, especially on back to back, 4 games in 5 days, etc. Not really going to find much better from current free agents. Sometimes players don't need to be "good", they just need to be better than bad or nothing which is all the team really needs.
Knight hasn’t played at a good level in years and has had surgery, it is very unlikely he ever plays well again. I agree with you that there aren’t any good free agents available... but there are lots of bad teams with good role players available.
None of these players are a positive asset either, so it's hard to see how they can improve the team. Morey really **** the bed with this roster construction.
Our bench is atrocious and we are paying 40 million a year to a player who can not play on consecutive nights. Amazing! Just ... amazing! Morey is a genius ...
Everyone wants a pick for a kyle korver or a kevin love. It is not moreys fault qi, knight, and nene got hurt. All were random before the season started. Melo was worth a shot at that price. Edwards is a two way, chriss was brought in to get anderson out so no blame there. I think mike can play him. Mcw looked good up until the season started, cant blame him for that either. Cant blame him for not giving ariza 15 million. I thought I could blame him for luc, but he has only played in 4 games this season and shot poorly.
That is the real problem of the season. We don’t have but 5 above average rotation players. (Capela, Tucker, Harden, Gordon, Paul) Everyone else has been hot trash and hence unplayable. Ennis, Clark, Hardenstein, Green etc are all end of bench players that we are depending on.
