    Exactly!

The style the Rockets play and guards he'll play with here is night and day in what he was subjected to.

Contract is not ideal but oddly I believe it's worth it

We don't need to "hand wring" about contracts. If Morey makes a trade for a contract 1) he knows he can move it again or 2) can make secondary moves to align the books. Assume this.

Focus more on adding high ceiling talent to augment Harden+CP3.

Barnes is pretty terrible so you don't want to compare Porter to him. Porter is significantly better and Barnes is overpaid.

Middleton and Porter don't seem comparable offensively. Do you wonder why Porter doesn't take those shots? Is he even capable of creating them? Middleton was already the leading scorer for the Bucks at the age of 24 under Jason Kidd, who was a horrible offensive coach. Not only was he capable of averaging an efficient 18+ppg as a primary scorer next to a young Giannis, but he also averaged 4 assists. He's a better ball handler, shot creator, and passer than Porter. He can even run point in a pinch. Harris' scoring prowess has been established since his Orlando days six years ago.

You can't blame Porter's lack of aggression on Washington's system. In the past four years he's been a starter, he's averaged 1.6 free throw attempts per game with a max of 1.7. Kelly Oubre averaged 3 as his backup last year. Even Ryan Anderson averaged 1.8 per game while in Houston playing fewer minutes and he was timid as hell. Porter is a great shooter but cannot create at all. Why would he score 16-18ppg in Houston when Ryno maxed out at 13.6? Porter is much more similar to Ryno offensively than he is to Middleton or Harris.

Porter would get up more shots in MDA's system. Sorry, I do blame Washington's system on Porter's production. Not entirely on Washington, Porter is somewhat to blame, but more on the Wiz.

Barnes is not terrible. He could be more efficient. But he can "create his own shot" and that is an important skill. Rockets need more of that type of skill on the team just in general.

My belief is Porter can be more in a better system. But I understand others that don't buy it. To each their own.

I just wanted to "loosely" throw out some other "non-all star" wings as examples. Much like Lowe did in his article.

MDA does a good job encouraging players to shoot shots. It took a while but look at Tucker. You see how confident Clark is shooting shots. It took a while buy Moute got up shots. With Porter's skillset, MDA's encouragement and CP & Harden LOOKING for Porter, those shots would go up.

He shoots 9 shots a game. Get him up to 14. His PPG would rise from 10 to ~18. That would be a huge help.

Porter would be more productive as a shooter/scorer than Ryan even just cause he won't have issues with depth perception at home, or whatever the hell it was.

Harden/CP/Capela in the middle of the floor with tons of space running their PnR.
Tucker and Porter in the corners. Both +40% corner 3 shooters.

    Go to work.

Brothers, if/when Morey makes that trade to bring us the 3&D messiah, we will look back on this thread with great pride.

4 1/2 shooters (Winslow going to get better)
    3 handles (Paul, Harden, Winslow)
    5 effective switching defenders
4 1/2 dynamite defenders (Paul, PJ, Winslow, Porter)

Bench: Clark, Richaun, Ennis, Mason, IH/ZQ, buyouts

Lethal combination. And this would allow us to bring Ennis and Clark off the bench, which will do wonders for us defensively.

I don't think Porter will have issues shooting 3s if the ball is passed to him outside of the the helter skelter system they run in Washington.

What's messed him up in WAS is they want him to create offense. He's constantly hearing it from fans, media, coaches, etc. that he needs to do more on offense. And to be a superstar that's true, but for what we need he's fine.

Our system doesn't have that kind of effect on players. PJ takes fewer shots here in 35mpg than he did in Phoenix in 30mpg, the only difference is that he's traded twos for threes.

We're much slower now with CP3. We play at the second slowest pace in the league, Washington plays at the 7th. We put up 85.7 shots per game, they put up 87.8. All the trade proposals discussed here have us keeping EGo, right? Where is Porter going to get these extra five shots per game from? He'd be shooting more than CP3! I don't think your projected numbers are realistic at all. He's fourth on the totem pole in Washington. Here he'd be fifth. If anything, his shots would be more likely to go down, but a higher percentage of them would be from downtown.

Not fact checking on this end or agreeing/disagreeing with anyone. But when you post something like this in general you have to end it with "Take that for data" or it doesn't count.

Most of our speed issues have to do with Capela...not Paul. Yes, Paul historically plays slow. But our offense in it's purity is designed to play fast. That is best facilitated by a crazy athletic 5 man with a big motor busting his tail down the middle of the floor on the break. Paul is a great passer. He'd find that guy left and right...and our pace would go up. But Capela ain't that guy. He's not fast. He's a very medium speed player. And he's got stamina issues that keep him from really getting up and down fast and playing at a fast pace for more than about a minute before he konks out. That's a bigger factor in our pace and us setting up the offense than anything to do with Paul.

Capela is an extremely fast center and routinely gets transition opportunities. And pace isn't dictated by a center's speed. Kareem Abdul Jabbar was in his late 30s and would constantly trail the Showtime Lakers on the break, but they were incredibly fast. The Phoenix Suns still kept their breakneck pace even when Kurt Thomas filled in as starter when Amare was out with injury. What a ridiculous argument.

Legit point about the Jabbar Lakers. Jabbar didn't run. He rebounded and threw the ball ahead and the rest of them ran.

However, not a legit point concerning this team.

On this team, at this point in NBA history, with the players we have and with the way the game is played today....the guys that have to run are your guys surrounding Harden and Paul. And in terms of today's NBA and small-ball lineups, the advantage small-ball centers have is their ability to get up and down the floor. Capela is NOT a fast center in terms of today's play. His speed is medium. He's faster than a lot of the big lugs, sure, Gobert, KAT, etc. But he ain't faster than Draymond and other small-ball centers...when we get to the playoffs and we've gotta beat those guys. Draymond can run him down defensively and routinely does. And he has no stamina to sustain a faster pace.

The ball travels faster than feet do. Paul and Harden don't have to be fast end to end. Magic wasn't either. He just received the pass at midcourt and his wings were the speed. He basically ran about 25-40 feet on those breaks. It was Worthy, Coop, Byron, Kurt and the rest of the guys burning up the lanes going end to end.

Our speed, if we are going to play with the pace we ideally need to be playing at, has to come from the wings and center position. Harden and Paul have too much offensive responsibility in half court with the drives clear to the rim, over and over again, and with the way our defense switches and leaves them under the basket rebounding the ball and running it up the court. It is important that our wings and center fly up and down the court. Capela isn't capable. And it's a significant limiting factor on our break. And it shows up in the playoffs against the Warriors.

After reading a bunch of these comments, it's clear that a lot of posters on here don't watch much of any other teams besides Houston.

If Capela is so slow, how were we 3rd in pace during the 16-17 season with him as full time starter? We were almost first in pace to start last season last year too while CP3 was injured. When he came back we eventually slowed down our offense and improved our efficiency. We were dead last in pace for the month of February when we really started clicking and our pace ended up dropping to 13th for the season. Did Capela used to be fast and now he's suddenly a clunker when CP3 plays?

BTW, when CP3 was in LA with Deandre Jordan the fastest they ever played was 7th in pace. Most years, they were below average in pace, as low as 27th.
