    Hmmm...

This should have worked much better than it did.

You make it sound like a horrible thing, someone in charge of running a business wanting to get the maximum return on his assets rather than just dumping them.

Yes, employers in the NBA can always fire their employees. Doesn't matter what the previous employer did.

Maybe you were thinking of hiring. There are restrictions on hiring. For instance, there are restrictions on whether a team can sign someone off waivers who already played for them that year. Example, GSW traded Bogut to Mavs to clear crucial capspace to sign Durant. Bogut was later waived. It's a loophole then for GSW to get him back, if Mavs were the team who waived him. Turns out, Mavs traded him again, and 76ers cut him, so that made GSW once-removed from the firing, allowing them to step in again.

Not at all - I am fine with them negotiating a ZERO buyout for Melo if he wants his freedom. The team should not have to bare his contract if they let him loose.

Uh, the players are assets. Employees of companies are indeed assets to the company. Of course the team will try to leverage the situation if at all possible.

Depends on who wants Melo off the team. If it's Melo himself, I agree with you, he shouldn't get that money. If it's the team, then they owe it to him regardless of whether they play him or not.

What I suspect Morey is doing is trying to minimize the damage. Losing an asset is one thing, but you want to be smart about it and not just dump it because you're in a snit.

Memo to Play by Play guys that watch the game. ENNIS WEARS AN ARM SLEAVE. No excuse to accidentally mix up Ennis and Clark at a quick glance. Just look at the arm. That is all.

That’s just it. They don’t want to waive him, and they do want him on the team.

I love Carmelo, been a Syracuse fan for 30 years, but it seems clear this is coming from him. And his reps. I think they see this season going down the toilet, they see the continued damage to his rep, and they’re begging out.

I think the Rockets are letting him sit out, trying to defuse the situation and evaluate options.

I don’t think the Rockets particularly want to waive Anthony at all. I think this has been completely generated by Melo’s management.

I know the difference …. My quoting that stat may be a bit dated. Clark "Was" shooting well from 3. I haven't watched the last 2 games at all.
The Spurs game is the first time I've not gone to or watched on TV a Rockets game since they moved here from San Diego.

For me to miss back to back games for the first time since 1971 is pretty telling of the way the season has gone and I didn't miss a game of the 82 season when they only won 14 games or the 83 year when they won 29. Ugh , I'm Old.

With the expectations we all had , the start to this season has been depressing to say the least.

Last years team was special - the sum was greater than the parts. You don't often see that. Too bad the Warriors broke the league because that team deserved a championship.

Yes , Morey blew it but I don't know if its really his fault - if Tilman wouldn't fork over the tax money to keep Ariza that's on him. They probably didn't have to match that $15m Phx gave either - they probably could have gone with a multi year deal (2-3 years) paying 2/3rds that and he'd have taken it and been well worth the outlay.

As for what role Melo has in this cluster**** …. I don't know , I don't think his locker room persona really matters , its the fact that he cant play defense and they didn't adequately replace Ariza.

He needs to go to a non-contender to have a chance to remain a rotation player in the NBA. A team like the Clippers or the Nets.

Well, he has experience doing that with LaLa.

Please baby, please baby, please baby, baby baby please.

btw: Lols at Lakers, would be awesome to see Melo and Beasley on the same team.

    Over.

As long as it took to get his ass in the door, it might take as long to get his ass out the door. ;)

Not really. Melo has been bad for multiple years now. He was never going to come in and magically improve. He's just not a good basketball player anymore. He's Ryan Anderson with more confidence.

Now...I didn't think he'd be off the team by December...but still.

I feel you, being a longtime fan, myself. It's been a very weird season, so far. Sometimes I think that's a Rockets specialty. The corrosive atmosphere doesn't help, either.

Dude, you deserve a prize. There aren't many of us on here who have been following the team since Rudy and Calvin were playing.
