Forget about intent, his actions lay out what he is doing which is subverting democratic principles and institutions - it is the path of an authoritarian.

Is that his intent? No one is in his head. But the actions are the path. If you don't see that, you're the one who is unhinged

:) I can but agree with you, sir. It is extraordinarily rare to see adamance expressed so civilly.

I watched a recent interview with Bannon where he said Trump's role was to be a disrupter, that the wasn't concerned with the way DC ran and wasn't interested in learning, that he was there to shock the system. I would refute that having Mike Pompeo and human-walrus hybrid John Bolton running your foreign policy was hardly "draining the swamp" but that's the way Trump's team sees him, anyway.

Republican Columnist just urged Acosta / CNN to sue Trump for breach of first amendment rights

A conservative Washington Post columnist on Thursday encouraged CNN’s Jim Acosta to sue Donald Trump for breaching the First Amendment of the Constitution after the correspondent was stripped of his press credentials following a tense exchange with the president.

Trump’s conduct, as carried out by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, “violates every democratic norm one can think of — and what’s more, is illegal,” the Post‘s Jennifer Rubin wrote.

“The government cannot punish or threaten the press or individuals based on the content of what is reported” under the First Amendment, the columnist noted, adding that “a federal court already ordered Trump to unblock Twitter users who were critical of him.”

While there is already a case brought by PEN America against Trump for threatening journalists with government retaliation when they report on him in ways he finds unsatisfactory, Rubin noted that “Acosta has an even more obvious case because he is the one whose rights have been directly violated.”

“The utility of filing a lawsuit (other than in annoying and embarrassing Trump and Sanders) would be a declaratory judgment ordering the White House to return Acosta’s credentials and barring the White House from taking such action in the future,” she wrote.

Rubin went on to urge other members of the press to boycott Sanders’ press briefings until her office returns the CNN reporter’s press credentials.

“While I believe the press must continue to cover and attend news conferences when Trump is present, there is absolutely no reason to attend Sanders’s briefings,” the conservative commentator wrote, “which do not impart information but instead use the press as a forum to abuse and threaten reporters and spread misinformation.”

Considering what Julian Assange has done for the profession and what he is suffering through, I'm disgusted that so many crocodile tears are being shed for a self-aggrandizing master of panem et circenses like Jim Acosta. If anyone deserves our sympathy, it is Julian Assange.

    Funny. Fit within the pattern.

    Alt facts.

    Bowling Green massacre.

Lies and distortion is the standard operating mode of this WH.

I’m not sure what I hope for within the dear leader community. People do know they are lies but don’t care. People don’t know they are lies.

Exactly, this is what I was referring to, but it looks like if you want to interpret my quote in a facetious way, you can. Haha congratulations!

Is the revocation of Acosta's credentials just for him or does it extend to CNN generally? If the latter, why wouldn't CNN simply send a different reporter? serious question

They can and probably did have another reporter there. But, Acosta is the senior white house correspondent. And I think CNN's point was that trump had no reason to take the action they did, that its not trump's call which reporters cover him, and by taking Acosta's press pass away he was violating the constitutional right to a free press.

trump really has no justifiable argument. Plus, he puts himself, shs, kelly and his security staff at legal risk. I really don't think trump wants to risk discovery at this stage of his presidency. trump will (as usual) back down.

Trump is childlike with his handling of the press but I think CNN is really stooping to the President's level by being so butthurt about Acosta.

Acosta isn't the archangel of journalism. When CNN shows they are butthuet this much, I drives home the narrative that CNN think way to highly of themselves.

Just let it go. Keep on asking difficult questions and let the President's reactions be enough to convey the message to the American people of how childlike he is.

LOL... trump and team doubling down on dumb, blustering like fake tough guys. This will be further ridiculed after they back down. Fake tough guys always back down. And notice they have already backed away from the "Acosta assaulted intern" lie.

I suspect they're not going to get very far with the lawsuit, after all access to the White House press room is not unlimited, otherwise every paper, radio station, and television station in America would be there. And I take it that physical access itself is a privilege, not a right--whereas freedom of the press more broadly is a right. This will be interesting to follow at any rate.
