This is pretty much the bottom line for 2020. If the Dem choices are a freak show with a one-eyed candidate beating the blind, they will fail. However, if they nominate someone who not only represents a sharp turn from Trumpism but can also inspire sensible voters, they will win decisively.

Very likely it's a woman. Just like we can thank GWB for Obama, Trump will probably give us a woman president in 2020.

I wonder if she is going to run (For senate) because she had to know that was going to sink her chances.

Either she isn't going to run or she's too delusional and thinks she can make up for it. I hope it is the latter, if so, then she'll use these next two years to try and gain favor and could be a definite ally for the Dems in the Senate. She's already one of the main voices in the Senate trying to protect Mueller from the new AG. I'm guessing if she is indeed going to run again she's going to be a lot more moderate.

The Dems need to just have an open primary for president. Let as many people run as possible and let the people pick the most popular one. That's all they have to do for 2020. The people will pick the one with the spark and momentum, just trust the base.

I truly do not think he finishes his next term. He is going to be expelled.

Goes to show once again it's Trump and the Repugnicans who spew the fake news.

While Democrats have picked up 30 seats in the election and it could be even more by the time the votes are counted, the Democratic party should take it as a wake-up call.

I saw Lizz Winstead this morning and she brought up a good point. The Democrats that won and even Beto who did well were not people of the Democratic party machine. They are grassroots candidates who focused on listening to the issues of people in their communities. They addressed those issues and won. The Democratic leadership didn't put forward these people. That's who the winners were. So the Democratic leadership in Congress needs to pay attention to what these new members have to say and how they really connected with their constituents.

Grass roots or astroturf? Beto took in more money than some states have spent on presidential elections...

This is kind of a forced message.

    Democrats of all types won.

Lizzie Fletcher is hardly a grassroots driven uber lib. The establishment even did the rare move of attacking her opponent in the primary. Donna Shalala is as establishment as establishment gets. Laura Kelly is a centrist Democrat. Tony Evers in WI was an establishment pick. Sure some were anti-establishment, but many weren't. Like I said, mixed bag.

How much he took in has nothing to do with your first question. If you want to claim astroturf, then back it up.

He didn't take it from Special Interests. Cruz did take money from special interests and in particular came to Los Angeles three separate times to raise money for his campaign. One of the dinners was $250 a pop. Donations from non-party non-PAC sources doesn't make it less grassroots.
My point wasn't that left-leaning or centrist Democrats won. It was that they were grassroots Democrats. Grassroots doesn't mean ultra liberal unless those were the issues in that community that mattered. Each of them spoke to the issues in their community.

trump wants the republicans declared victors, despite a huge number of votes that haven't been considered. As trump suggests, desantis and scott are the tainted candidates... the only reasonable solution seems to be runoffs for both senate and governor... otherwise the winners will simply be tainted and should have asterisks next to their names.

The whole Florida election needs to be audited and if anyone is committing fraud, on either side, they need to be jailed.
