At this point in his career, Carmelo Anthony is Michael Beasley. Can score points inefficiently and can’t play defense.
what else are they supposed to say. throw him under the bus. of course as long as he's still a rocket they're not going to do that. this organization isn't classless
He could also go a third route. Say nothing at all. Again, after giving a guy this much praise, if they cut him in a week and say he's not performing well enough it makes Morey look like an ass. Morey is too smart to do that. The Rockets are too hated of an organization for that kind of thing to fly under the radar. Morey will get eaten alive if that happens. I gotta believe he said that as a last stitch effort to keep Melo. This wasn't Morey or coach addressing the league, this was them addressing Melo directly.
There are couple of parties in this. What Morey wants. (Fertitta in the background) What MDA wants / we can forget about him (What Jeff Bzdelik wants for his Defensive scheme) What Harden wants and what Chris wants What is best for Melo and what he wants. Solve this riddle and find the middle path.
he could but this organization has shown that they do not throw guys under the bus and will do what they can as far as having class. if he says nothing at all then all the posts will be about why are they letting melo just taking all this drama. people will complain about whatever happens. they'll find a way to as always
My take is that CP at his CORE is competitive. And he is smart. At the end of the day, THAT will overtake any friendship feelings he has with Melo. CP is smart enough to see the analytics to see what needs to be done. Rockets have dug a hole that requires defense to be at a premium. And they have to use those players to get out. CP knows this.
Again, don't care about people at large here too much, talking about players and future FO people. They will see through some of this. Also, your false equivalency here is off, having people complain about Morey being mum is not nearly as bad as Morey being two faced. That's far worse. It isn't classy to say "hey we like this guy and want him here" to "he was an issue and didn't fit". If Houston really believes he is an issue and doesn't fit, the best course of action is to let him go.
and eventually they will. whatever issues he's dealing with now, they're obviously letting him do so. so you dont care about people at large here too much? ok, well considering youre one of them that seems a little interesting.
No doubt this is complicated, but my point is, Morey addressing the media only to cut Melo doesn't appease anyone on that list. It creates distrust between him and players. it undermines the coaches, and it makes him look weak and smarmy to ownership. Part of it is, I believe DM is smart enough to see that. Now, if your argument is he isn't, well then I can't necessarily counter that. My faith in his intellect is just that, faith.
I'm a rockets fan who sat through the Howard debacle, I'm a rockets fan who has watched all of this train wreck of a start of a season, it's pretty apparent that I'm stupid enough to stick around even if Morey were to do this.
Not saying that at all, it just means my opinion/the fan sided one doesn't necessarily matter because they will keep watching.
maybe but from what ive seen the fan side, I guess you can say more casual ones are turned off by this team to this point. The conversations went from what works against GS when we face them to hou sucks at basically every aspect of the game right now and will be lucky to make the playoffs. All in a span of a couple months removed from a wcf appearance and putting GS on the brink of elimination. The only team that had any real success against them.
I also love the Rockets brand minus the Dildo. That is why I am sticking around and because of Clutch City and Dream. True, the league has evolved to a guard's league. I am not a Morey fan at all but I am believing him with all his flaws and accomplishments. If Carmelo wants to chase a ring on a contender, they cannot stop him. If he just wants to play more minutes, maybe that can be negotiated. Whatever goes, I will watch this team play with or without Melo. As a contender or just 2nd round fodder. Tilman has a word to say in this too.
He might be smart and has a degree in analytics......but he ain't that top notch with words or with people. I might be wrong but that is how I see it. He's been trying hard though.
At this point, I think Melo is at a crossroad in so many aspects of his life. Does he want a ring, does he want to be THE guy, does he want to play with friends, does he want to win... the list goes on. A lot of those questions have mutually exclusive repercussions based on answers. Ring chasing means relegation to the bench, playing with friends means he might not win a ring, being THE guy means he might not even make the playoffs, push and pull forces here. Houston is a compromise on a lot of those accounts, and I think that's the best situation to check all the boxes for him, but, if one box is more important than another then therein lies the problem. Only Melo knows that answer.
True, but we aren't talking about a gaff here. We aren't talking about saying Grecians instead of Greeks. We are talking about a misunderstanding of cause and effect. Morey is a chess player, and to be one, you understand cause and effect quite well... or so I would think.
