I agree with the posters above about not arguing with your loved ones about politics. Some of my best friends have different leanings than I do and we dont argue. We may rib each other a little bit but the friendship is too important. Their Beto signs don't bother me in the slightest.

My in-laws are rabid trump supporters and yes, its always the goal to avoid any political discussion. My wife's stepdad is a quiet but dedicated trump supporter. He walks around our house listening to rush limbaugh with earphones and obviously feeds my wife's mom with talking points. My wife's mom has a compulsion to discuss politics (complain about Democrats) and usually getting confused by the issues she is trying to discuss. Its funny, we both use the same financial planner and he even comments about how my wife's mom is so angry about politics. And angry she is... you can even see the anger in her face and body. And, as I mentioned, she seems she *has* to discuss politics.

I felt like the signs looked too much like the spicy ketchup packets from whataburger and I have been trying to eat less carbs.

I'm not sure that either characterization is correct. I think it's more believable that they are economic migrants (and yes, even invaders)....and I don't think they are going about it the right way at all. You did see them break through the fence in Mexico, and hurl rocks at the Mexican police?

They are seeking asylum at a port of entry. That is legal. Whether you think they are legitimate asylum seekers or not doesn't factor in unless you are one of those that will be deciding their cases. I don't believe that is the case. They aren't trying to sneak in. They are approaching to a point of entry with the intent of applying legally for asylum.

They are trying to get into a country where the mean per capita income is 50x that of their home country.

Not to argue - just to point out the rules on asylum - The laws are very narrow , refugee / asylum seekers must be fleeing persecution limited to race , creed , color , sexual orientation , religious or political affiliation.

Only about 25k were granted asylum in 2015 which is the most recent year we have data on with the majority of those coming from war town regions of Africa.

Yes. I've said from the beginning I don't know whether or not they will be granted asylum. That isn't even the point. The point is that they are seeking it in a legal manner. Their cases will have to be reviewed to see if any are actually granted asylum status.

I think the point most are arguing is that these will be fraudulent claims of asylum … not within the confines of the law yet they will be granted entry (family units) and …. its unlikely they are deported after those claims are processed.

    Basically exploiting the law.

They are welcome to argue that, but that hasn't generally been the case with asylum seekers.
