...the object should be to get those people (over a million or so) registered and ready to vote. If they have paid their debt, then they should be allowed to vote. One of the most egregious transgressions of our legal system is that there is no desire to reintegrate former inmates into society who have served time for non-violent criminal offenses.

If those people have no stake in their future, there will be no need for them to see the need to participate.

I lived many years in Iowa. It's like a second home, in a way. University of Iowa grad, Hawkeyes, etcetera. The state went for Obama twice but the broad swath of isolated non-college-educated whites helped elect Trump and puts a thing like King in office. When I visited family in Iowa four years ago the warm fuzzy huggies dissipated quickly when my aunts and uncles started talking about Obama's doctored birth certificate and I couldn't keep my mouth shut: How can you believe that? But people believe what they want to believe.

As far as voting goes. In Brazil, you are required to vote. It's the law. You can vote NULL if you want, but you have to vote. This will never, ever, ever happen in the United States. Well, not for a very long time, if then. We have the opposite going on here: how do we make it tougher for people to vote?

    Democracy, meet dictatorship.

Mr I won't talk to any media members who actually report my statements and actions. What a true POS, a stain on our country and politics.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/07/pro...wins-nevada-election-weeks-after-he-died.html

Republican Dennis Hof, a Nevada brothel owner and former reality TV star who died last month, was elected Tuesday to a legislative seat representing a rural southern portion of the state, according to The Associated Press.

Hof was elected to the Assembly District 36, beating Democratic challenger Lesia Romanov, an educator. State law allows county officials to appoint another Republican to fill the vacancy. The district is located in three counties, Clark, Lincoln and Nye, so three candidates could be identified before a final selection is determined.

At one time, Hof owned a half dozen legal brothels in the state. The 72-year-old's death took place after officials had already mailed ballots. He had been backed in the election by Roger Stone, a former advisor to President Donald Trump, and anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist.

I do not believe he will finish even 1 year of his term. I think he'll be expelled from Congress.

This election is a big blow to the Democrats.

Trump almost won every battles against Obama, Oprah, and everything the Democrats thrown at him.

Beto got 70 millions and he visited every single ****ing counties in Texas and he still got destroyed in the non metro area, and also he is facing Ted ****ing Cruz whose hated by this party also. And even Lebron and Pop were on his side too.

If the Democrats can't find a way to penetrate into these non city districts and talk some senses to those dick heads, or find a way to motivate more youths to vote in 2020, Trump will win again.

What are you talking about? A big blow to the Democrats would have been not taking back the house. The map was nearly impossible for them to take back the Senate, and nobody really expected Beto to be able to defeat anyone with an R next to their name at this point in Texas. Everything played out pretty much exactly how most predicted.

Which is why they'll try to spin it otherwise. They're trying to minimize what it means to have the House back in Democratic control. They're trying to ignore that, while repubs still won the statewide races, they were much closer than predicted. The gap is closing,

If I'm disappointed about anything, it's the lack of Democratic turnout in Montgomery County. Not that I expected much to change, I just expected the gap to close here more than it has. Maybe in 2 years we'll put someone with a pulse up against Kevin Brady.

The Dems did lose several key races - losing two more seats in the Senate (Indiana Missouri) and a couple governorships , most notably Florida.

Those senate seats are a much bigger deal than taking the house in the grand scheme of things - the GOP will likely get another SCOTUS appointment further swinging the high court.

The Dems flipped 7 governorships. I am not sure why you are rooting for a court that is going rule against the people.

Slow down there …. I didn't say I was rooting for it just stated the facts - they furthered their advantage in the Senate and its likely they get another opening.

That FLA governor spot is a key one in a battleground state - we could see more gerrymandering in that state turning a battleground state red.

I prefer a balanced court … I see the merits of both sides (they both suck TBH) and we have to protect ourselves from either extreme.
One thing I will note is that we have had a 5-4 conservative leaning court for most of the landmark cases I my lifetime and we've made significant progress in civil rights over that period - I don't see a slightly conservative (or liberal) court as against the people. The SCOTUS is really the only branch I think has our best interests - House , Senate & POTUS are self serving bastards no matter what letter is in front of their name.
One of the few cases I think the SCOTUS got wrong was Citizens United …. corporations people , that's a joke and has been bad for our politics ever since.

Beto raised 70 mils which unheard of.

Beto went to every single counties while Ted Cruz is laughing and sitting in his office watching Fox news.

Did you see all those red counties and how many votes that Beto got?

He was destroyed with almost 8:2 or 9:1 margin.

If Beto can't defeat a sh'tty Cruz now, what makes you believe the Democrats can provide someone 2 years later to at least convince those idiots outside of TC for the Trump rally to change their mind?

Obama tried, Oprah tried, and yes there are some shifts, but there is NONE blue wave coming yet.

It's because policies, arguments, and character concerns about the candidates are all irrelevant at this point. The way America has become in the past ten years, your voting pattern can be nearly exactly predicted by your race, your age, your education level, and if you live in urban, suburban, or rural areas.

Clearly those on the right feel their very existence as a culture is under attack. If they are not to be reasoned with then they are not to be reasoned with. I've given up long ago. White nationalists out there are trying to convince their women to out-**** the competition, who they've painted as rabid Hispanics and Muslims who will stop at no end to turn the future brown.
