I wonder if Zion and RJs debuts altered any franchises intentions this year. Like, how unfortunate is it for a team like the Clippers to not be able to be in the hunt for those players?

I thought about that, too. Beal's contract at $25,000,000 or so, while no chump change, is not so bad when compared to what Wall's about to get. Wall is up for a supermax (maybe he already signed it?) and I'd be loath to pay it to him in DC, given how the team sucks and is already in the luxury tax. the Wiz (ease on down, ease on down the ro-oaaad) have expiring contracts, which is good for them next season, but could hurt their depth if those players leave.

Whatever deal gets done, though, the Wizards would still need a decent starting point guard.

Yep, next 4 years Wall is getting:

    $38,150,000
    $41,202,000
    $44,254,000
    $47,306,000

I just have the feeling that even that would not be enough for Thibs to deal Butler. I don’t think he really wants to trade him.

For sure. The 1sts do absolutely nothing for Tom. Not only does he know he won’t be coaching Minny for that long, I’m assuming he’s not stupid and he knows with this whole circus act he probably won’t have another job in the NBA. Our only hope was for Glen Taylor to override Tom but if he didn’t do that when the 4 first round picks were offered then he probably won’t end up doing it for us.

that could very well be the case...EG and 3 unprotected 1sts or EG and 4 1sts with protection on that final pick...if that’s not enough to acquire Butler then it is what it is at the point, we tried

Clippers seem content to be on the treadmill of mediocrity. They think they can get Kawhi, but I think he should stay in Toronto.

I feel like KL is def staying in Toronto.

They are clearly the best team in the east and it’s not very close imo.

There great, imo if they offer him the 200+ Million which they will and they go to the finals. I don’t see how he walks away from that.

Playing in Toronto is so much better than San Antonio.

The clippers and lakers are trash. Lebron is old their young guys are good but I don’t see any of them being all star level guys let alone superstars.

Clippers are interesting but their the clippers I just won’t believe they can sign a big FA until I see it.

Gordon + Capela plus 2 first round picks for the #1 pick.

    Draft Zion.

I have seen this type of deal mentioned a few times. It makes sense from the Rockets and Wolves perspectives. The Rockets get Butler and the Wolves gets picks and "a player that can help right now." @Nook posted a similar trade suggestion.

The problem is that Hawks aren't getting enough here to take on Knight and an extra year of Dieng (minus Plumlee). And they are not getting value for Bazemore. Hawks have to get TWO firsts in this deal. 1 for Bazemore and 1 for the contracts.

If the Wolves want a talent like "Bazemore" they aren't ALSO getting 3 firsts. They get two. Not to mention they get 1 year off of Dieng with Plumlee.

STILL, not sure that is enough to get the Hawks MOTIVATED to make a move. And that is key.

The Rockets are motivated. The Wolves are motivated to some degree. What is the Hawks motivation to act now? None. They can get a 1st for Bazemore right up until the trade deadline.

That is the problem with including a THIRD team into this deal. The "motivation."

Yeah, the Timberwolves organization is a clown car. Thibs has no intention of trading Butler (and Butler seems quite aware of this). None. And the owner doesn't want to fire and still pay Thibs; Thibs won't quit and walk out on his money. Round and round we go.

If they're really looking for someone to take Dieng's contract......? Good Lord. We could be waiting a long time. Unless we move on to Washington or some other team that needs to blow it up.

You think the team that gets the first picks would do that? No way.

    Barrett could go #1 also

Probably not. Unless we have a top 3 pick. Everyone will start tanking for these two.

This Butler/Thibs thing is so frustrating. I really have to wonder if they ride it out until Dec 15th. That would open up MORE trade options for the Wolves and lessen the Rockets chances. That would suck.

It is like Thibs and Taylor don't care their team is in limbo. Just ridiculous.

Exactly, getting a third team involved will require the Rockets and likely the Wolves to give a little. In other words it will likely require the Rockets to give up a little more than they want to and the Wolves to be more realistic in what they get in return.

The Hawks would likely take someone like Dieng but it isn't going to be for a single #1 pick, it would likely require 3 #1 picks for the Hawks to just absorb his contract. That is a good enough offer that the Hawks would be motivated to do so. However, that means that the Wolves likely are left with Gordon only and someone like Chriss.... maybe they get the Rockets to cough up another #1 if they include someone useful like Jones.

    So in the end:

Atlanta gives up 2+ years of cap space and pays Dieng in exchange for 3 #1 picks to help them rebuild.

Houston gives up 3-4 #1 picks and Eric Gordon and Chriss for Butler and possibly Jones.

Minnesota gives up Butler, Dieng and Jones for Gordon, a #1 and massive cap space.

All of this is dependent on the Rockets being able to resign Butler and possibly extending Jones to back up Paul.
