ignorance is easy. Get your talking points, and go back to playing Candy Crush (or whatever) or looking at pet photos (or whatever) on Instagram. Team politics is easy. And the Red team always has an advantage in the midterms. Always.
Does it make Republicans here feel good that they had to go clearly racist and lie to drive their base of uneducated voters to the polls, or do they wish they would have been able to run on the positive things like the economy? I’m looking at @Astrodome for an honest answer here if I can get one. How does it make you feel that the party had to go there to get this level of turnout? Do you wish they would have ran the campaign differently and let the chips fall where they may?
Well many of them were openly rooting for a racist, sexist, president in Brazil so I'm not surprised if some of them find pride in that. Again, the reaction from the American right on that guy winning in Brazil told me all I needed to know about many on the right. I don't think they care, they will say anything and do anything to win races, and this is why they continue to win.
It allows many of them to just be who they are. I don't believe all republicans are racist. They're just more able to ignore it some how.
well . . . here's a different way of looking at ignorance https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/11/midterm-elections-voters-american-citizens-decent/
I don't think republicans think they are racist. Outside of hardcore racists (like KKK) how many people actually think that they are rascist ? On the other hand , I think being called rascist when you don't think you are .... is gonna energize you and you aren't going to all of a sudden change your mind . It's way more likely that you double down .
I hope Demcrats learned something tonight. We don't want nut jobs in power. Oh who am I kidding, Democrats never learn.
I believe that is accurate. But that doesn't mean that racism shouldn't be called out when it happens.
Not seeing a big "blue wave". Dems are going to pick up the House, but not sweepingly. Actually losing Senate seats in a pretty big way. If it weren't for 40 GOP retirements in the House skewing the odds to Dems favor, I don't think they would have picked up the House.
I agree . But it seems like we are playing with multiple definitions (or at least levels of racism ) What qualifies as racist behavior ? I think this is part of the reason why people that are called racists don't believe they are racist . I don't think they are unaware of the action ... they just don't think it's racist .... For example the Megan Kelly blackface thing.... I don't think she is racist , especially in the classic sense that she believes white people are superior . Maybe she's uncomfortable around poor looking black people , but she might just be scared of poor people in general lol . I'm not trying to defend Megan Kelly btw, I'm just drawing up a hypothetical for a perspective that I think exists .
Yeah, hopefully they have learned their lesson. If they had just said nothing else but Healthcare, Healthcare, Healthcare they probably win a lot more races today. As it stands, they likely take the house and we'll see what the split in the senate will be.
Trump is so unlikable, Dems are going to make inroads despite this being the best economy in the US in 60 years.
Republicans are just better politicians. Politics of fear and lies works. We have to keep it funky. The most disgusting, racist, doofus of a president, sweeping amounts of corruption in full view of the public, giving money to the rich on the backs of the american people, taking health care away from millions of people then saying the democrats did it, and they still come out of the midterms virtually unscathed. It's amazing really. Republicans can get people to vote against their on interests. @BobbytheGreat had to die so the republican party could live.
LOVE seeing Kris Kobach getting crushed in Kansas. He's losing badly and Kansas is going to have a Democratic Governor.
Honestly, I don't know if it's possible to say who is or isn't racist. All we can do is judge people's actions and words. I definitely agree that Kelly is a good example of people disagreeing over what is racist. I thought her position was racist, but as I said it ranked at about a 3 or 4 on the scale. I could be persuaded that it was a point or two higher or lower depending on the arguments presented. I know plenty of people who don't think it was at all racist. In fact, many of the others who believe her intent was racist base it on other actions she has taken or said, and not on that one incident alone.
