Lol now black people don’t own businesses or employ underachieving family members. Pretty sure the commercial cleaning business my African American aunt created 30+ years ago in which she has employed her two daughters doesn’t count either right lol
Overgeneralized much. Hispanics complain about the same things black people complain about. I don't know where you come with your ideas about Hispanics.
I agree with black immigrants. They have D a very strong culture. No surprise that they are so successful. But black Americans? I don't agree with that.
Yes.... with Dick Cheney and TheresTheDagger holed up in “Dick’s Bunker” and armed right wing paramilitary “freedom fighters” trying to hold off the caravan.
I'm curious as to why? Here's what I've seen from my father and the people who grew up in his community. To summarize 60 years of life, my father was born and raised on a plantation. Once a year, the local community has an event referred to as "Plantation Day" where all the residents and their adult child come back home (if able) to Albany, Georgia to celebrate success, mourn losses and just enjoy each other's company. My father left Albany in 1979 and he's been back for every "Plantation Day" since then (minus when he was deployed). When he was stationed in Panama he flew thousands of miles just to make the event because it was important to his community and his mother. Quite of few of the African Americans in that community do what. That's just one example of a strong cultural tie. Another example is the Gullah/Geechee people of the Georgia and South Carolina sea islands. Once again to sum up 200 years of history succinctly, they are the descendants of enslaved Africans who were brought to those islands. The islands were insulated from the influences of mainland America for the most part and because of this they retained many African customs and traditions. "Gullah", which is also sometimes used to described their native language is a mix of English and African languages (like Mende, etc.). This group of African Americans has a very strong connection to their roots.
If you mean getting involved politically by voting, I don't agree that Hispanics need to get any more involved than they are. Hispanics know that voting isn't going to change their lives from their experiences in their home countries. So when they abstain from voting, it's because they know it ain't going to change anything. And I agree. I appreciate you sharing your father's story, but when I think of culture in the terms of this discussion I think of something that people have that teaches them how to live prosperously. Nobody who attends "Plantation Day" can go to that for guidance on how to live their lives.
You ever thought their happy and you're not. They're here making money. They don't care about they see the bigger picture.
I guess I'm confused by the initial comment. Are you saying that Black Americans don't do thinks that set their future generations up for success?
One of the reasons i harp on this subject is not just to make a point if reference of where blacks are but to make the point we assume Hispanics wanna join our causes. They are alot more about economic conservatism than whites, blacks, democrats, and republicans give them credit for cause they start businesses
Wait... When I read the story of plantation day, it was a time to celebrate the success of people and to share that success with others. Isn't that exactly something that will teach and encourage people to live prosperously? Did you believe Plantation Day was different from that? Maybe I misunderstood. I just wanted to clarify. Maybe @amaru could clarify that as well.
If I say they don't emphasize education enough, you're going to be like, how dare you? If I say they don't emphasize hardwork and sacrifice enough, you're going to be like, how dare you? If I say they don't emphasize the role a father has in the family enough, you're going to be like, how dare you? If I say they don't do enough, you're going to be like, how dare you? He said they celebrate their successes and mourn their losses. This isn't dissmilar to what many people do in other gatherings. But people aren't taught how to live and more importantly what to teach their sons and daughters at these gatherings. Those things are taught and exemplified over a lifetime.
I guess I agree that learning these things happens over a lifetime. There isn't one single culture that has an event, celebration, or holiday that teaches how to live. That doesn't mean that cultures shouldn't have cultural events, holidays, celebrations etc. Ideally, people will continue to learn how to live almost every day of their life. These events like Plantation Day are part of the lifelong lessons on how to live.
I’m certainly going to provide you with examples to the contrary because you are making a sweeping generalization of approximately 46 million people simply based on their ethnicity.
