Trump promised Mexico would pay for the wall. Why should we pay for it?

I'm sure it would be nice to believe that people from Texas don't love the wall idea, but that's definitely not reality. The wall is very popular with Trump Republicans, even in Texas.

I'm just waiting for "the BEST deal".

"My style of deal-making is quite simple and straightforward," Trump wrote in "The Art of the Deal." "I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing and pushing to get what I'm after."

“Deals are my art form. I like making deals, preferably big deals.”

The fact that you jump to the conclusion that “I don’t care” instead of the idea that I simply have a different idea how to achieve a goal says a lot about you. Not coincidentally that is one of the main issues people on the right have with people on the left.

The people on the left tend to think that you are a bad person if you don’t agree with their idea of how to achieve a goal. People on the right don’t conflate different ideas on how to achieve a goal with being a bad person. That’s not to say that an idea itself can’t be evil but it is to say that neither you or I are a bad person simply because our ideas are not the same.

When the people on the left conflate a different idea on how to achieve a goal, such as the tax plan, they automatically assume it comes from a place of evil. When they do this it gas lights the right and its on of (not the only) reason people on the right hate CNN.

We saw the left use this strategy after the Parkland School Shooting. We saw the left use this strategy when talking about the Trump Tax Plan. You as well as others on the left use this strategy when discussing how to control the illegal immigration problem. I sure you will not agree with this but gas lighting the right motivates the base and actually pushes people who tend to be closer to the center further to the right.

Perhaps you should go back and actually read the entire OP. That point is actually clearly addressed. Hint: click the on the spoiler.

National Security and the Control of our National Boarders has always been the responsibility of the Federal Government. No one is suggesting to build a wall between California and Nevada.

Closing the benifit loophole is about legal tax paying citizens of the United States not paying any sort of Social Security benifits to people who are not here legally. If a portion of that can be used to fully fund the wall to help control our boarders then that is benifit for our country.

This is a verifiably untrue statement.

Stats without context. The unemployment rate actually ascended from about 5% in 2008 to over 10% in 2010. It took the last administration the next 6 years to get it back down to where it was when they took over. They certainly had a lot more room for improvement.

That case absolutely backs up my statement that it is the Federal Government not the State Government that has the responsibility to protect our borders.

Prior to 1875 it was managed by individual states. The Supreme Court decision changed that.

If it was "always" the case, then abortion has always been an individual right in the USA even though the Supreme Court didn't rule on it until 1973 and people went to jail for it before Roe v. Wade.

I guess that also means if you love to rage against "'judicial activism" we need to go back to the pre-1875 state-by-state model.

Last poll I found nation-wide: 60% oppose the trump vanity wall:

    Last poll narrowed to Texas:

Ahem... you were the one that immediately jumped to the conclusion that since I oppose trump's ineffective vanity wall that I favor open "boarders" (OK, borders).

lol. When Obama took office the US was shedding 598,000 jobs a month. The month Obama left office the economy added 227,000 jobs. That's a more than 800,000 jobs/month turn around. Trump can't even beat Obama's average job gain for his last year in office. sad.

That’s not how the Supreme Court works. They don’’t make laws they interpret the constitution and make rulings that are in effect laws that are already on the books. In other words, that ruling implies that the Federal Government already had the responsibility of governing immigration.

Furthermore, section 8 of article 1 of the US Constitution grants the Federal Government with the power of National Security which of course would include defending our borders.

Regardless, the Federal Government has a right to place a wall between the US and Mexico if it’s in the interest of securing our borders.

Of course I never once accused you of “not caring” because our ideas are different. If you are not in favor of open borders just say it. I won’t argue with you about it. You come off as being an open borders person. Beto is an open boarders person.

I can’t speak for people “on the left” but I mostly have an issue when Republicans spend years fighting equal rights for gay people and support crap like “reprogramming” of gay people... support increased military spending but cuts to programs that help poor children and songle mothers and do everything they can to prevent black people from voting.

Sometimes believing and fighting for things like supporting apartheid, the marginalization of gay and transgendered people and actively moving to limit resources for poor children makes you a bad person.

How is Beto an open borders person? I don’t remember hearing him say we should have no border patrol or customs. When did he say we should eliminate citizenship because there is no need?

Maybe at 40 I am losing my marbles but I don’t remember hearing him say that.

Numerous times I have said I favored increased enforcement. Proven effective methods like increased hiring of border agents. Increased use of electronic surveillance (cameras, drones). And increased enforcement of hiring laws to reduce the attraction to come to the United States.

The one thing I oppose is the ineffective, expensive border wall trump proposes.
