A Democrat, in Texas, for a Senate race, yes very very impressive!!! I'm glad you noticed like the rest of the country.

I mean did you see the way Cruz talked to his female assistant Emily during his disastrous Facebook Live event. He's such a prick, you could see the zodiac killing anger brewing inside all over his face. Poor Emily, I hope she survives.

How any self respecting women could vote for someone like that is beyond me.

Idk that i've ever met anyone who "likes" Ted Cruz.

Remarkable he has been able to have the success he has had.

Imagine if the GOP put forward someone half-way likable.

That video looks like an SNL skit.

Not a Cruz fan, but I have to agree with him here. Most high school kids can figure out how to shoot a Facebook live video....total incompetence from Emily. LOL...

If anyone needed more evidence that RL lives in Russia and not Houston or Texas in general, this would be it.

I agree that this is most likely the case, but there is another interpretation: Beto didn't really expect to win. Rather, he is part of a Democratic Party experiment to see how far left Texas voters have become.

Or, said another way, it's to test or gauge the resonance of Beto's message in Texas.

Thus, depending on the level of support Beto gets, the Democratic party can then decide whether it's worth it to try and keep investing in Texas races -- or just to write the state off as Deep Red (Republican). I can't help but think that's what is going on here.

From what I can tell, Cruz is not on the verge of "blowing it."

You don't have to like a politician to vote for them. He or she can be the biggest ^%$& in the world -- but if they advocate policies that you like.....there you go.

It's funny. There's an old line: "Democrats want to fall in love. Republicans want to fall in line." Strikes me as appropriate here.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. When Texas' largest cities elect an openly gay mayor and openly gay sheriff, heads are gonna turn. You have an influx of transplants not seen since maybe the California gold rush so the culture of the state is changing.

If you don't put in the work to develop a legit democratic group now you are an idiot.

Personality and personal charisma are hugely important in politics. If you don't believe that idk what to tell you.

I don’t think Beto would be this competitive with Cornyn. This election was a special case with a decent amount of the population despising both the POTUS and Cruz.

That's true. Take Trump. He has personality and charisma.

But it isn't the end all and be all.

I think a lot of people voted for Trump in spite of his comments on the bus, and other outrageous comments. They held their nose and voted for him, because they liked his policies and/or detested HRC's policies.

There's also a question of whether people *should* vote based on personality/likeability. There's plenty of charismatic devils. See: Bubba.

As for myself, I vote for the person whose positions reflect my goals and desires, and not whether they're photogenic or likeable.

I didn't vote for Cruz (in case any of you were wondering), but I can see why people support him.

Of course personality and charisma are not the "end all be all."

Most folks vote along party lines no matter what.

It would certainly help Ted Cruz if he was more personally likable though.

If Cruz was actually likeable, like Beto is for lots of people, this senate race probably wouldn't be as close as it is.

I think Ted Cruz inspires very few people. He gets by on being a Republican in Texas almost exclusively.

I can actually agree with a lot of this. Cruz is probably just getting by, by being a Republican.

I will say that I think Cruz is very articulate and very intelligent. Likeable? Perhaps not.

But then, we also have to look at what we mean by "likeable." I like Trump (for the most part) because he upsets the right people and groups.

But those same groups would say he is "unlikeable."

It’s strange to like a statesman because he upsets people that you find it acceptable to upset.

I live in Montana...a state that is a lot more Purple than Texas has been in a long time. Here, our 2 term incumbent Dem Senator Jon Tester is in a close race with his challenger Matt Rosendale...somewhere between 2-3%....nobody knows because of the lack of polling here.

In addition, just yesterday the Libertarian candidate decided to throw his support to Rosendale...a HUGE moment in the race that could give Rosendale the edge to actually take down an incumbent.

Yet, all we hear about nationally is Beto....losing by between 5-10% depending on what poll you listen to. This despite almost 40 million in campaign donations.

I guess I'm trying to figure out why Beto is considered such a big deal? Why all the attention for a dude that is losing so badly in comparison to others?

A state no one expected to be remotely close. If Beto does win it’s bigger than losing the presidency IMO just because of the ripples. If a republican was close in Cali we’d hear the same thing

No one knows where Montana is on a map
