The tax Steph Curry pays for his special kind of greatness

Currently front page at ESPN.com. Windhorst this time, licking some Warrior 'nads.

The story is about all the things that keep Steph from being recognized as one of the very best players to ever play the game, that he should already be mentioned alongside Kareem, Russell, MJ, Magic, Bird, Duncan and LeBron.

Among the gems is a quote from Steve Nash: "People don't associate him to greatness because he doesn't dominate the game physically. He dances. He pays a tax for that. He pays a tax for his great teammates."

The idea that Curry suffers because he has great teammates is beyond ludicrous. Those same great teammates are also responsible for giving him room to do what he does, for getting him open so he can hit 3-pointers and strut around arrogantly afterward. Put him on the Kings and he no longer has buttloads of space in which to operate, making him suddenly just another very good shooter.

I can't hate Curry too much. Its not like he's gonna go out there and beg management not to sign great players so it doesn't look like he has too much help. Now KD... **** KD. At least Cousins is honest about it and not talking about bullshit like how its the 'hardest road'.

Nobody is slobbing anything. They're jamming their junk down people's throats. I don't like it, but that's the situation currently.

I LOVE the NBA. But I absolutely LOATHE Stephen Curry. MAKE IT STOP!

That's the 1 great thing of LeBron in LA. ESPN covers it like no other. And I am FINE with it. Because it pushes the Curry slobbering to the side. But now the media is coming back. It is brutal.

He'll never win a Finals MVP. He always gets bailed out by others.

ESPN's constant need to create narratives is why I despise it so much. They should cut more staff and reduce the bloated amount of chatter. Give me more news and less opinion.

Didn’t read the article. But Curry’s last 5 years is a top 10 all-time 5 year run. If he’s not in the class of those players, it’s only because of lack of longevity at this stage in his career. At his trajectory, he will be a top 10 player, or at least right on the cusp of top 10.

Maybe in the regular season. 0 finals mvp's pretty much takes it off the table overall.

Nah. I think he's the perfect player for a perfect system with the perfect teammates (even pre KD) to make him look as good as possible. Just like harden couldn't dream of fitting into that system, I don't think Steph could shoulder the burden of a harden type player game in game out for 82 games year after year (and harden is no where near the peak of that type of player). We see the Steph who rests 4th quarters, takes rest games, can work off ball due to very high IQ players who can playmake. Put him on charlotte and he makes them better but we don't think of him as highly because he wouldn't do these things (especially what he can do with KD basically making GSW impossible to double team or even load up on).

Of anyone in say the top 20, I think he's maybe the least capable of carrying a non-loaded team (depending on your top 20). If I am to be given random team X, I don't pick curry over maybe any top 20 player. And even then, when he helped spur an all-time team, he proceeded to basically beat one good healthy team (okc), choke a 3-1 finals in which he personally was awful, gave up control of the team when it got too hard, and will now basically receive 3 years of "incomplete" grades from a legacy perspective because a) its not his team and b) Steph and kd aren't winning any bar arguments using any of these 3 rings (including this year) as ammo.

Now if Steph finally wins a finals against a healthy team and wins finals mvp once KD joins LeBron or goes to new york? Then we can talk.

Cant blame them man they built a great organization and they tanked for so long and sucked. Now they the best they pretty much started from bottom since days of baron davis and monte ellis and built up. They pretty damn good now.

As someone who lives in the LA area I cant stand to hear all this lebron and Lakers talk. Anything and everything is Lakers. Local radio. Local tv channels. The people. I rather have those Lakers fans back in the closet hiding like they were when they weren't relevant. I could avoid ESPN to not hear warriors or Lakers talk but I cant avoid local tv and radio and etc. So I rather all the focus still be on those Warriors than Lakers. At least the locals dont talk Warriors. Except the bandwagon fans.
