They are insane. The closer to the deadline the lower his value holds and the more power he (Butler) has. They are going to end up getting scraps for him because he'll be seen as a half-season rental that has already mentally checked out for the season. History shows I think that the longer you hold on to a disgruntled player the less value that player will hold in situations like this.
