If you add Eric Gordon, and they add Taj Gibson this could be a fair trade.

Gordon, Chriss, Brandon Knight(expiring), 4 first... for the above players.

Rockets could use that extra defensive powerfoward something they lack, could get them back to being dominant, with getting butler.

Ok but you said there are other trades we could make.

    What are those trades?

Yeah Jimmy is great, but him alone will not drastically improve our horrendous defense this year.

Shooting will be mediocre and depth will be limited.

I’ve said before that I don’t think last years effort can be repeated. They need to keep Gordon in my opinion to be able to compete.

He would impact it in a big positive way. He would actually make it easier for guys around him... defense is more of team collective effort. His impact would not just be about him alone.

    Dont be delusional.

The team as it stands is getting swept by Warriors in a 7 game series, that is if it is lucky enough to be in the same bracket.

Well said, Batman. It's refreshing to see a take that isn't tinged with panic. Now excuse me while I go to the next room and freak out. ;)

I think losing Jeff Bzdelik was a far more serious blow than many of us realized at the time. We desperately need a replacement possessing comparable talent and experience to bring our defense back to where we need it. I said in another post that this terrible defensive start was far from being entirely the fault of the players. We lost our deeply experienced defensive guru. Morey needs to find us another. I hope he has someone in his sights and pulls the trigger.

When Chris Paul says they have to go back to the drawing board, the coach says they need a new system and Tucker says it’s not the same team I think it’s a little different than a losing streak.

The team as it stands isn't playing GSW in a 7 game series. We will have a different team then, even if it's made up of the same players. That's my whole point.

Am I being irrationally optimistic? Maybe. Most fans are. I believed in the Rockets when Hakeem took them into the playoffs as a 6 seed too. We were the underdogs in every playoff series that year and we won it all.

There are fans that consistently believe in their team's ability to be their best selves and there are fans that are Chickens Little, freaking out all year long, almost no matter what.

It's clear which sort I am. I'd hate to be the other kind.

Idk, but I'm not Morey :D

For real, I think just another wing....and a back up c, but honestly after this poor start I am kinda disillusioned. But sitll, if you want to truly compete, than keeping Gordon and getting Butler is a must, otherwise its just laterally movement.

I can’t remember where I heard it, but yesterday someone was taking about how PJ is elite as a help defender and secondary rotator. Because we have no one as good or better defensively, PJ is now the primary defender on the other teams best wing.

If we get Butler then he goes to the primary defender role, PJ goes back to the secondary and help defender role, and Clint can focus on contesting at the rim.

This would singlely fix our defense in an exponential way because of the trickle down effects it would have on Clint and PJ

It is, you're right. They're working on it. Obviously. The playoffs start in April, I believe. It's still October.

Agreed. I still can't wrap my head around why he would leave now of all times. If he or a family member has health issues, I totally get it. But if it is because he thought the team either: 1) wasn't appreciating him; or 2) didn't have the defensive personnel to make this year worth his time, this trade (if it happens) could help with #2. #1 could always be cured by approaching him and offering him a healthy deal to come back.

I really wonder what the real reason was for his leaving. I get that folks some times just want to retire and enjoy their lives, but after spending my entire career in one profession, if I had the chance for the "big one" by staying one more year, I would stick in for that year absent pressing personal issues or a big problem with the new owner or new players.

Seems like there is nothing to be done about the former, but the I would do my best to overcome the latter by approaching him again and at least try to entice him out of retirement.

I would agree with you in most other era.

Problem here is that the Warriors team is a juggernaut and we dont have a Hakeem.

We were lucky to have a team that had Warriors figured out last season on the defensive end and we broke it up.

We needed to build upon what we had last season, not semi-dismantle it and rebuild.

That's a lot to make it happen in a short span of time. Even if we get the right pieces, no guarantee on chemistry.

Where we should have been right now .... Keep the entire team together minus Anderson, and then add Ennis + Butler.

I wouldn't call this a hot take because it's painfully obvious that that's true. It's not too late to fix it. Personally I'd like to see JVG come back to help us out. But, luckily for every Rockets fan, I don't make those decisions. Luckily the reigning executive of the year does.

Knight is signed thru 2020. EGo, Nene, Knight + 4 firsts for Taj and Butler would be nice and that would clear out nearly 35 mil for 2019-2020. I highly doubt that happens, but it's nice to dream. Who knows how much they truly value those 4 first round picks, but I hope they are way overvaluing them...

Right I’m not ruling out that they can get it together. In my opinion they need to add an elite player without losing Gordon

It's just kind of funny to me how the commissioner comes on Paul's Twitter account on his birthday and says the rockets want make it out the 1st round. And the next thing you know the rockets lose ariza, Luc and defensive cordinator. Sounds fishy to me.

You may be able to get him for Gordon and two first rounders I would imagine.
