You know you have a one of the Top GMs when the best the whining, knee-jerk “Fire ‘errbody” crowd can muster is “meh, Overrated”. Sorta like you know you have a Top Shelf Wife when the best the jellies can muster is:
It's Darly Morley, get it right! Anyways, I agree Darly Morley is a horrible GM. Give me Daryl Morey back.
And for those not married yet, you know you have a Top Five GF when the jellies are yelling @topfive and @topfive's_gf
I think some people are worried that this could be 2015 all over again, with Carmelo Anthony being the new Ty Lawson. I don't completely blame them. There are some similarities. It came out of an exciting playoffs run. We added a "star" player for cheap that was supposed to push us over the top. With early season disappointment, we kept saying that we should give it time. But that time never came. We later found out that it was the rift between the cornerstones that cracked the team. Personally, I think it is very different this time. We have a different coach, and we have a different "cornerstones" tandem that has proven to have good chemistry. The bad news is that Golden State has gotten better, as several other teams also. The requirements for title contention now are much more than three years ago. And our stars are that much older now. The window is closing.
The best thing about our off season not being up to Morey's standards... There is nothing we are "stuck with" (ex: Ryan Anderson). We also locked in our top priorities (CP3 and Clint). If the Melo experiement is not working we will be aggressive at the deadline and should be able to make some positive moves. It's not ideal and risky considering it's championship or bust with a short window. But, that's also a product of Golden State having an All-Star team. Example of risky: If Butler is still available we would probably be more likely to take more risks with him by including someone we might not now. Maybe Morey has spoiled me too much that he has given me an enormous amount of faith that he can quickly right his wrongs by the end of this season (also considering our strong position for buyout season). I have and will continue to think Morey is in the elite class of current GM's. In Murray we trust.
i mean doesn't your post allude to that: If the Melo experiement is not working we will be aggressive at the deadline and should be able to make some positive moves.
Tier one GM - all time greatest Jerry West Pat Riley R. C. Buford/Pop Tier 2 GM - great vision Meyer, Ainge, ... Tier 3 GM - GMs which have rings, Mitch, Don Nelson Jr, David ...... Tier 4 GM - Masai Ujiri, Morey, ..... Raptors have a better chance to win the championships than us the next 4 years.
So if you buy an NBA franchise, you'd hire Kupchak or Griffin over Morey? Good luck with that brilliant strategy. Just like Mark Madsen has a ring, some GMs have them just because they were in the right place at the right time.
