    Typhoon Mangkhut has killed at least 54 in the Philippines and done some major damage to Hong Kong and Southern China.

    Yeah, this is looking like a really bad one. It is continuing to strengthen and looks like Panama City is in the crosshairs. This is looking like at a minimum another Charley and at worst maybe another Andrew for Florida. That's bad.

    Cat 4 145-150 mph winds - this this thing absolutely exploded and will hit as it's still intensifying.

    I didn't realize the Gulf waters were warm enough to make it intensify so much. I'm glad this thing didn't come our way (our bad storms usually hit between mid-August and mid-September, Allison notwithstanding), but I hope this storm doesn't make fatalities of the "they always blow these things out of proportion" crowd that didn't evacuate.

    This thing might even dump tons of rain into the Carolinas, and God knows they don't need it.
