In the same trade you cannot step up but if there was enough distance between the transactions like now with Knight from the Anderson trade you could. NBA could consider it a 3 way and in that structure you have to all be in line with CBA on that deal. Problem is we would have to find the right player and then trade a pick and then still do the same thing. Who is valuable to Minny and makes that much that someone just wants to throw away?
Yes. But there are different kinds of hearsay. It depends on the source of the "say" that you "hear."
I follow some guys on Twitter, including Moray, so Clutch and others can vouch for my insider knowledge. I'm hearing the situation is fluid and the Rockets, while not desperate, have contingency plans in place. Expect more developments in the near to medium-term future.
Wolves asking price is sky high. 3rd team to offer "top Prospect" 4th team to take Knight Contract Highly unlikely but possible
I'm talking about this: Knight for Player X who is $16-20m salary (legal because it's a 1 for 1 deal) Player X for Butler (legal because it's 1 for 1 and $16m is within 125% salary matching of Butler) PJ (plus fillers) to Minny for dead weight (or even nothing) Not to say this is the trade....just saying this is a legal way to move PJ and Knight for Butler. This all is legal. The only thing I'm not sure is 100% legal is whether the first two steps can be done as technically a 3-way simultaneous trade. In otherwords, I'm not 100% sure Player X can be traded from Team X to Minny through us, as an actual 3-way trade. But, since all the trades in Step 1 and 2 are 1 for 1 trades, they can be done with no waiting period, nonetheless. In July of this year, Mosgov was traded twice within one day. follow me?
Yeah, that makes sense. But still, Mozgov was traded this year for Dwight, and was traded again next day. In this case, Player X in my scenario above would be a Mozgov-type situation where Player X is traded to us (for Knight), then "immediately" traded from us to Minny.
They only want Adebayo, a pick and Richardson?!! That can’t be true, Butler wants the Heat so Wolves have leverage..pull Gordon and focus on our 60+ win team
I get what your saying. Essentially your doing a salary step up. Knight for X is trade 1. X for butler is trade 2. Tuck is trade 3. The problem, I believe, is still the circumvention of the CBA no? Because your essentially stepping up in salary from knight, to X, to butler who you otherwise couldn't acquire naturally or via a way straight up using only knight. I understand the legality in theory, but I imagine the league office would investigate and uphold the integrity of the CBA on a matter like this making it illegal. But again, I'm no expert on the law of the cba and to be Frank you are much more versed than I in this regard. It's really a technicality for @BimaThug My biggest concern is ultimately it is pairing another player with knight or X in order to circumnavigate the restriction placed on these players in the first place.
Yeah, I doubt you can "step up" as part of a 3-way. But, I wouldn't have mentioned this had Charlotte not just succeeded in trading Dwight for Mozgov on Friday July 6th, and then on Saturday July 7th, used Mozgov again to execute a 3-team deal for Biyombo....presumably because Dwight was untradable. Since that Mozgov for Biyombo trade was part of a three team deal, clearly that was set up prior to the previous day's Dwight for Mozgov trade, which made it all happen. So, if it can't be done legally as a 3-way, it can be done in 1 day, if not same day.

What is the wait period from receiving a player in a trade and trading just that player. Next day seems f’d up if allowed.
