The Rockets, unlike you, have contingency plans in place.

It’s not that hard of a concept.

If they’re hellbent on sending him to Miami then we want to get something out of it.

That doesn’t mean the Rockets aren’t going after Butler as priority 1.

Please stop acting like you are sitting next to the GM..

Not to be a jerk or anything, but what makes your sources better than Ikos, CODs,or Robinsons who specifically said PJ was the reason the trade talks didnt go through and that he wasnt on the table or that he was taken off.

I haven’t seen enough of him on the court to make a guess.

Sorry. I have to stick with what I was told. They have never lead me wrong before.

Why would the Rockets want to be a third team if they don't get Butler? Because Morey wants to improve the Rockets and if he cannot get the steak, he will still eat the potato. We did the same when we tried to deal for Howard before he was a free agent, we were willing to be a third or fourth team if it helps us.

As for Tilman and Morey, they have a window right now that isn't open very long. Once Paul breaks down, we will not be elite anymore. So they will do anything they can to win now while they can. Down the road they can always move players like Capela if they want to.

What Nook is saying lines up with cyber, ch44 and Wolfson.

It also doesn’t contradict Iko’s in that PJ was not part of the offer package made last week, but not necessarily untouchable.

It makes sense if you think about it from a negotiating standpoint because the Rockets would not want to show their entire hand from the very start. That is a poor negotiating play. If Minny wants PJ (a very valuable piece to us) they must make concessions to get him.

The Rockets never planned on picking it up. The Chriss contract was what was appealing to the Rockets when dealing Anderson away.

I agree. He's due like $4 mil and unless he gets a double double in the next two game theres no way he's getting it picked up.

I don't take it as you being a jerk. I just happen to know some people from some legal things I have helped people out with in the past and have a family friend that has been on the Rockets for over 20 years.

You can believe it or not. I usually don't say much, and am not offended if you want to dismiss it.

There's always contingency plans with Morey. That's why I know we're not giving up Tucker in a deal for Butler.

Check that post again, I edited it with some more reasons it makes sense for negotiating.

    For everyone's benefit.

You have to understand that this is the point of contention between you and most folks here. You are entitled to have your own opinions. But, you know, using your own theory: 99% is not 100%.

    Don't make it a fact.

I would imagine the most likely Morey pitch is:

    Rockets in: Butler
    Rockets out: Gordon, Nene, Qi, 2019 1st, 2021 1st, 2019 2nd

    Wolves in: Gordon, Koufos, Qi
    Wolves out: Butler, Dieng

    Kings in: Dieng, Nene, Rockets 2019 1st, 2021 1st, 2019 2nd
    Kings out: Koufos

This puts the Kings right at the cap without going over. They get some picks and still operate under the cap. Wolves save 12 million this year and Koufos is expiring at the end of the season, clearing over 20 million and putting them under the cap next season.

A reasonable all in move for the Rockets. A money saving move for the Wolves that allows them to stay competitive. Adding Tucker instead of Koufos ties up their cap the next few years while making them marginally more competitive. "Help me help you" says DM. Kings get to collect some assets while their team looks towards being competitive a few years down the line. "You are 2 years away from being 2 years away" says DM. Heat will now back off and deal with the Rockets later in the season. "Win Slow, you up?" DM says sliding into DMs. At least that is what my shaman tells me Darrel Murray is doing.

We are trying to plan for Paul's breakdown by getting him a cheap understudy that he can teach and by getting other young players on bargain deals that will run a while. Hence the Qi 4-year contract and the IH 3-year contract. A good young SF that can shoot, make plays, pass, and play D either on an extended rookie deal or locked down as a restricted free agent is much more preferrable than a maxed out vet SF hitting his 30's. We want to contend for the next 5 seasons...not just this year.

It all depends on what Tilman wants to do, and honestly I don't know what Tilman wants.... be it a full tear down and rebuild or a series of bandages.

The cold reality is that as soon as Chris Paul doesn't play like Chris Paul, we are taking a step back...... there have been 4-5 point guards in NBA history that do what Paul does, and the likelihood of getting an understudy to reach that level is close to zero.

You're basically regurgitating what @The Cat said on his podcast earlier this week.

He also explained why the Rockets would be willing to make this type of deal for a player that is (in some people's eyes) injury prone and how they would still likely have value in a trade if/when the time came to cut ties with Jimmy Butler.

It's not a contradiction. Everyone with actual sources has been pretty in sync with what is being said (sans the PJ tucker piece of it). Stop revolving all of this around Justice Winslow, it's not about him.

You really turn a player that people genuinely like into someone we root against, it's very off-putting and sad to see since his a Houstonian and a good kid overall. Please stop it already.

The Rockets were working on 3-4 team trades that involved giving up either Tucker or Gordon, but not both.

Before July, Kings are not interested in our first round picks for taking Anderson.

how about our first 2 round picks to 4th team for a lottery pick?
