If we miss out on JB how will being involved in trade rumors right before the season starts impact PJ and EG? Say what you want about the regression in Ryan Anderson's performance last season, but I'm sure his name constantly coming up in trade rumors didn't help. I know all the cliche's about how these guys are supposed to be professionals and being traded is part of the game but realistically it's gotta be hard to get ready for the season when you're not completely sure you're in the teams long term plans. Believe me I'm all for trying to get better, but these guys are human too so I just wonder how the trade rumors really affect them.
Well, if we miss out... it’ll be because we weren’t willing to include PJ, so he should be stoked. EG is playing for a larger contract in 2 years so I think he continues to be a gunner and confident
I think Thibs would hate to trade Butler and see him compete for a ring with the Rockets. I don't think people think this way consciously, but I would bet that doesn't help us at all. It all depends on how much of the decision is made by Taylor. Tucker will play hard no matter what. Contender or lottery team, trade chip or core piece, it doesn't matter. He is built that way, with a thicc persistence that's rare in the world. Gordon I'm not sure, but in his interviews he seems to be even happier than usual.
these guys are professionals. they know the business. i don't think stuff like this should bother them.
Will kinda be happy if we stayed pat. EG is underrated & has been relatively healthy his tenure here. Butler's probably overrall more talented but I think EG's a better offensive player
Being included as the centerpiece in a trade for an allstar should boost EGo's ego imo. And even if it does weigh on him, he says he loves it in Houston which is much much more than the said about his time in New Orleans where he tried to leave in RFA and they matched against his wishes. Think he will be ok. Tuck has had to play overseas and work his way back onto NBA rosters. Mental toughness should never be a concern with him.
Wishful thinking. Players have said that trade rumors do affect them. Shane Battier is as professional as you can get. Even he admitted it. That said, trade rumor is a fact of life for an NBA player. It's just unavoidable. I used to criticize Morey for generating so much trade rumors in the media. But he has toned down a lot in recent years.
And it could have just as easily been what held the deal up. No one knows anything substantial. But I'd say it would lean toward more not wanting Tucker being moved than not.
If the trade rumors affect their play that badly, I have a solution: Trade them. Seriously, you're a highly paid pro athlete who has been blessed with the opportunity to remain on the glorious Houston Rockets team for a while longer. You should sulk only if you DO get traded. So despite any rumors that have been flying around, if you're still on the roster you should rejoice and play your ass off. Sulking just makes you a weak-willed wimp. Anyone who has been the subject of trade rumors who ends up NOT being traded needs to be locked in a room with Gerald Green for an hour to re-learn what an honor it is to play for this team.
As I said a few weeks ago, we should not trade Gordon and Tucker. There is little chance we can upgrade in the short term. Most good players are not available.
