I used to think like this.

Then I got into the orbit of a similar experience.

Now I realize that coming forward about stuff like this is incredibly difficult and has virtually no upside.

I do not crap on anybody for lacking the courage or fortitude to confront it.

I think our friends on the left have proven that baseless accusations are sufficient to call something "credible"

Advise and consent is broken. It is the job of the Senate to give advise and consent. The Republican Senate under Mitch McConnell chose not to do their job. There should be a time window (3 months/100 days or some such) for the Senate to o their job. If not, the President nominee should be seated/appointed.

Mitch McConnell could very well muster the votes to defeat the Garland nomination and should have been forced to (or not).

McConnell advised the president that they would not consent to Garland’s nomination due to the Biden Rule.

It’s most unfortunate that you still have refused to accept this fact.

Well on top of the "Biden rule", if they wasted their time with a hearing, Garland would have just been rejected by the Senate, he didn't have the votes to be confirmed. He was never going to be on the bench no matter what.

Fair enough, but you do know that the same thing happens to legislation all the time when it shows up without sufficient support right? The DNC got propaganda one way or the other, would it have really been superior if the Republicans simply rejected Garland? In many ways, we've seen more long lasting butt hurt about his nomination being tabled.....so that was really the superior outcome for Democrats.

I totally agree. When the metoo movement started I was very skeptical. Then you see all these scumbags like Lauer, Charlie Rose, Weinstein, etc all going down. I was shocked. I guess because I'm not a total perv it surprised me how many men in powerful positions are. I also couldn't understand why someone could be harmed like this and not seek justice and go to the police. Then you think about it from the woman's stand point. What does she actually gain? Her name is all over the papers and it could just be a he said she said against a very powerful person. Plus she is probably going to struggle getting another job because who wants to hire the person that sued or caused all the negative attention at her last job?

Which USSC judge did Reid get through with this? Seems to me Gorsuch was the first confirmed with a simple majority when McConnell was in charge.

Yes it is a complicated issue.

My wife was sexually assaulted by someone that is famous in music.

My wife was 16 years old at the time and he was in his 30's.

He raped her and she never went to the police and never told her mother or brother.

She told her best friend a week after it happened.

I know it happened because when she discussed it with me after we were together awhile, she brought out a box that had her journal in it, a STD test and photographs of bruises.

I asked her why she never went to the police and she told me that everyone would want to know why a 16 year old was in a limo with a 30 year old rock star, would ask her what she expected and think that she was just looking for money. She didn't tell her mom because she didn't want her mom to know she wasn't at her friends house, and didn't want her brother to think she was a w****.

So lots of times people that are victims do not tell....... it isn't that much different than younger people that are molested by family or friends, they just have internal shame or feel that it they cannot go through it all again.

White House Tells F.B.I. to Interview Anyone Necessary for Kavanaugh Inquiry

WASHINGTON — The White House has authorized the F.B.I. to expand its abbreviated investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh by interviewing anyone it deems necessary as long as the review is finished by the end of the week, two people briefed on the matter said on Monday.

The new directive came in the past 24 hours after a backlash from Democrats, who criticized the White House for limiting the scope of the bureau’s investigation into President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court. The F.B.I. has already completed interviews with the four witnesses its agents were originally asked to talk to, the people said.

Mr. Trump said on Monday that he favored a “comprehensive” F.B.I. investigation and had no problem if the bureau wanted to question Judge Kavanaugh or even a third accuser who was left off the initial witness list if she seemed credible. His only concerns he said, were that the investigation be wrapped up quickly and that it take direction from the Senate Republicans who will determine whether Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed.

“The F.B.I. should interview anybody that they want within reason, but you have to say within reason,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden after an event celebrating a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico. “But they should also be guided, and I’m being guided, by what the senators are looking for.”

I think Trump is just using this time to pick someone else. He will burn Kavanaugh and ram the next person through. Then use that to praise himself for how he did a thorough investigation etc.

    That is fine.

    I don't have a problem with that.

Donald Trump has every right to do that.

If he makes a mistake, he has a right to correct it.

There are a number of highly qualified conservative judges that will not lie under oath multiple times that would do a great job replacing Kennedy.

The democrats lost the election, the president gets to nominate someone for the USSC associate justice position, and the republican majority gets to exert their majority through voting on the confirmation. If the President nominates someone that isn't corrupt or morally compromised, he will get his justice approved.

For me, at this point it is about having integrity and qualified people on the bench.... and Kavanaugh doesn't meet those qualifications.

I think a lot of democrats hate Kavanaugh even more because he basically went Trump on them at the hearings. So for 20 plus years they will be looking at a reminder of Trump on the Supreme Court. Gorsuch didn't come across like that.

I thought Kavanaugh did a good job at the beginning of his statement. You have to show some emotion when someone accuses you of these kinds of allegations. Then he started crying and the sniffling was awful. Then he looked real bad with the "beer" statements and attacking the senator. Out of nowhere Lindsey Graham came out and saved his confirmation.
