Why is Mr. Cruz afraid of his own first name?

He puts Beto on his signs because it is catchy and is what he is often called.

If you want to beat him, go after him on the issues. Texas is still a conservative state..... but going after him based on his signs isn't going to get you anywhere.

I live in San Leon, which I would have assumed was overwhelmingly right wing... there are about 8-1 Beto to Cruz signs. BUT signs don’t win elections. Still crazy to see.

I probably wasn't making the best case that I could. But if you look above, I believe that I did speak to your point.

First, I think it's too early to tell whether the recent tariffs are negatively impacting consumers.

Second, even if they are negatively impacting consumers, the tax cut was still worth it, for reasons I explained above.

Third, if the tariffs are negatively impacting consumers, it is easy (or not too difficult) to rein in personal spending.

If you rein in personal spending, and add that to your tax cut, then you have a nice chunk of change in your pocket/bank account.

no it is not. i already posted several articles pointing out that the trump tariffs are negatively impacting consumers. you conveniently ignored and/or dismissed them as leftist and liars. even breitbart, the only news source that you say are not leftists and liars, discussed how tariffs are hurting the average american.

    https://www.breitbart.com/news/inflation-gas-prices-tariffs-squeeze-consumers/
you may like paying higher prices for things, but most people do not.

so the american consumer should be penalized so trump can have his tariffs? this statement is just further proof that you are a not a libertarian or someone who believes in free market capitalism and a consumer-based economy.

My neighborhood sign polling shows an overwhelming landslide for Beto, which is pretty shocking because I wouldn't have though I lived in a liberal neighborhood.

That said, the vast majority of houses have no signage and I expect that the majority of that majority are voting for Rafael.

A couple of my neighbors have a fight going on. One put up two signs for each of Beto and Lizzy. The neighbor across the street put up two for Cruz and Culberson in the exact same pattern lol.

That tariffs hurt consumers is not just basic economics, its almost common sense, and there a centuries of history that shows it

You are not making any sense. If you have to cut back spending because of everything is more expensive because of taxes(tariffs are taxes). You are not saving anything. Also less spending less demand. Less demand means less economic growth or worse.

Perhaps, but not necessarily. I am saying *if* the tariffs cause inflation, then people can cut back spending. I am not sure they will have that effect.

Moreover, I think you are equating a reduction in spending by consumers as automatically leading to a lower economic power/quality of life. I'm not sure that's true at all. Think of all the unnecessary purchases people make.

The recent Trump tariffs might in fact hurt consumers; or they might not. It's not automatic. Businesses can sometimes absorb increased costs (sometimes they have to).

In any case, as I have said many times here, I think it's way too early to tell, just months after the policy has been enacted. In five years, maybe a substantial conclusion can be drawn.

as a small business owner i cant tell you how utterly stupid this comment is. even stupider when the increased cost we are talking about is not the result of natural market forces or increased cost of supplies or lack of supply, but rather an artificially imposed tariff.

and as i have shown in this thread many times, it is not too early to tell. there are already many examples of increased costs due to tariffs and how they are directly impacting the consumer (you and i). i even provided an article from the only news source you said is not leftist and liars, breitbart.

the national association of homebuilders says trumps tariffs are driving up the average cost of a house by $9,000. that is happening RIGHT NOW.

Well I was looking to purchase a piece of machinery for woodworking that cost a few thousand dollars. They showed the normal price and then below that they had a tariff charge of 600 bucks that was 20% of the total cost. Plus that is on top of a previous 8% price increase because of the steel tariffs. Luckily woodworking is just a hobby for me so I will buy a different product or wait to find a used one.

Unfortunately history does not support your assertion - companies pass costs of tariffs unto consumers until there a price point of a viable alternative is reached

I get it now! I’ll make money each year if I buy less goods I would have normally bought because I worked hard!

I could see Trump using this logic.

America! I saved you 30 billion dollars by NOT building a giant wall!

We care about Obama now? Does this make you more likely or less likely to support Beto?
