They want to send a message to the #MeToo movement that evidence still matters in this country and that it takes more than a baseless allegation to lynch a man. Some extremist women will be really upset about that, but it's how it has to be.

They can ram him through and risk a pissed off base of women and forward thinking voters come November. It’s backwards thinking. Both sides win if they just pull the nomination and move forward with a woman.

    Pride goeth before the fall.

You underestimate the intelligence of women, that kind of misogyny isn't a solid basis for prediction.

Yep, looking at the polls on this it seems it seems support for Kavanaugh, even among Republican women, has dropped.

There's still not an option for me on this particular poll.

I can't say "yes or no," and testimony didn't definitively tell me.

I think it's probable that he drank way too much and crossed an important line at least once w' Dr. Ford, ignoring a girl's blatant signals to get off of her and leave her alone. I think it's most likely that she is telling the truth and that he thinks he is telling the truth and just doesn't remember groping her, as he was drunk off his ass.

I think the raunchy yearbook stuff is ridiculous and not meaningful. In that era, such yearbook scribblings were commonplace. Maybe not pretty, but it was normal in the culture at the time. (Just rewatch any early Beastie Boys video for a window into adolescent males of that time.)

I do not think there's evidence (at this point) that he's an adult sex offender, but from his own lies under testimony (some about trivial details from earlier confirmations that he had no need to lie about) I think he has some documented questionable character flaws or flaws in his judgment and temperament.

I just wonder about the silent population of women that secretly loathe being attached to a party that consistently demeans them and treats them as second class citizens. How long can you go being told to fall in line and just vote blindly before you go rogue?

The precedent here is huge and winning the SC nomination while losing a generation of voters is a reality.

You really should worry about that as you demean women and treat them as second class citizens, I'm not sure they'll leave the Democratic party en masse as you seem to be suggesting, but it could happen.

I feel the same way with the SCOTUS in general, if all they do is appeal to their red meat base then they are slowly going to lose the rest of the country. It's actually surprising to me how sharply support for Kavanaugh dropped among republican women, that should be a huge red flag for them and they should ask themselves if it is really worth it.

I agree though, there are women that just shrug at this and move on but I think the fear would be younger women. Women who already are worried about Roe V Wade and then the extra punch in the face would be this guy, who is accused of sexual assault, being confirmed to the court?

Honestly though, I'm not a woman, so I can't speak for them, I just look at the poll numbers and rub my chin.

I am not sure what your point is? Are you suggesting that polygraphs are useless in screening for high level security clearances? Or that they are perfectly acceptable for a green/red button truth or lie scenario?

When a poly is used to screen a person for something like a security clearance, its not used in a manner of determining if they are lying about something. If a question triggers a negative response, then the investigators will put more focus on the subject that triggered the response. It doesnt automatically make them guilty or ineligible for the job. Again, a polygraph is not a lie detector test. All it does is measure reactions, regardless of what the stimuli is.

Another thing to mention here is the judicial process. In essence this woman is deciding punishment for a crime that has not been proven Cavanaugh committed. She has waited almost 4 decades without attempting to make law enforcement aware of her allegations so they could investigate. If her story is true and this dude was a predator, she certainly wasn't taking action to prevent others from being assaulted by him.

Victims don't get a say in the punishment phase when an offender is actually convicted. For 36 years, I'm not sure how him being a predator in her mind and already being in the judicial system wasn't enough to come forward then him being up for high position was. She wants a say in what happens to him, worse yet without having to go through the process of proving he's guilty.

It's also a factor that she's being paid almost a million dollars in order to attempt to ruin Kavanaugh's life with her uncorroborated story.

Probable isn't how you find someone guilty. Respectfully, there's no proof he did anything to the woman. Dr Ford offered up nothing that's been corroborated. A witness that she supplied and should be on her side says she doesn't even know Cavanaugh and has no recollection of any of this. Dr Ford can't even say when this happened. Not sure how you come up with probable. Possible is a better choice of words if you leave the the date open ended as it is.

Agree on the yearbook stuff, that just came off as silly to bring up.

Seemingly the only 2 things that Dr. Ford has remembered in her entire life was that she only had 1 beer and that it was for sure Kavanaugh that attacked her. The entire rest of her life is hazy.

Being a justice for the highest court in the land is a privilege.

Not being a Supreme Court Justice is not a punishment. That's entitlement to the max.

Brett Kavanaugh has a strong moticmotiv to lie.

Ford has no motivation to lie. She isn't gaining anything out of this besides death threats and pure unadulterated hatred from people like you and Bobby.
