You are projecting your own fears and math onto a rabid Rockets fan billionaire. The rational view is if the trade goes down, then that means Tilman isn't scared of his finances like @Carl Herrera seems to have made you. The rational talk is: Tilman is more scared of never winning and looking back after Harden retires thinking, "damn, I should have gone all-in to match GSW."
Just goes to show how "circumstances" can dictate situations. Butler is expiring can can be a threat to leave. He is 29. And the Wolves need to "trade now" versus being able to wait until the trade deadline.
Twolves are the worst franchise in NBA. They gave Love away for Wiggins and got lucky by winning the lottery and getting towns. Other than that this town got nothing to show for
I'm not someone who believes that Fertitta is "broke" or any of that nonsense, so don't think that is what I was getting at. What I was looking at is 2 years from now when 4 players will cost the team 135 million dollars. I don't care how much an owner has, there's a point when the luxury tab is simply too ridiculous.
Would Colin Sexton really be a better deal than EG and another player (Chriss? Another #8 pick)? I don’t know much about Sexton except he was the 8th pick of last years draft. Brandon Knight has probably been the best of the number 8 picks in recent history. My assumption is at 19 he probably needs some seasoning to help Minnesota, aren’t they trying to win sooner than later?
Keep in mind, right now we don't know where the cap and luxury tax levels will be 2 years from now. There are usually increases every year, plus the new gambling laws might bring in a huge influx in "royalty" revenue, expanding the cap like a new TV deal would. Not a guarantee, but a possibility.
You've been spamming this lol . I don't think it's unreasonable to look at going all-in like this in terms of a cost benefit analysis. If we end up in a situation where the repeater tax could cripple us for 5+ years ; I think that we might not end up extending butler .... especially if we don't win . I think viewing the butler "trade" as a likely rental is a reasonable point of view . Also , I think Tillman has confidence in our GM to pull off a hell of a rebuild after our window closes. Morey has never had the chance to pull off something like Boston or Philadelphia because les demanded he compete . DM is the OG master . He's a top 5 GM . People here see how the astros turned out ... and that was unprecedented baseball tanking ...... over 162 games . NBA rebuilds , you can hold fan interest to see young players play .
If we were to flip the question, is Houston capable of beating GS with Tucker as a starter and Ego coming of the bench? I think last year proved we can. With Jimmy, it seems likely but until it's proven, it's still JUST a highly plausible outcome. I think we can agree that chemistry is as equal as talent to win the ring. One configuration is known while the other, stbd.
Let Fertitta worry about that two years from now. We could re-sign Butler and dump him months later like the Clippers did with Griffin. And players clearly haven't judged the Clippers for doing that since the Clippers are still a target for Kawhi and Butler for some reason.
First, I apologize for calling you insane for simply having a difference of opinion, and I’m not interested in going back and forth with you beyond this post either. Second, I understand and appreciate the value of what Eric Gordon brings to the Rockets, too. His willingness to play off the ball, and ability to space the floor really helps the Rockets offense. That’s why I’ve posted on multiple occasions that I think the fit with Butler on the offensive end concerns me. He’s going from being having the ball in his hands to create in Chicago and Minnesota to playing mostly off the ball here. And you are right that Gordon is a borderline all-star caliber guard, and the Rockets are lucky to have him as the third guard in their rotation. As for Ennis, I’m not discounting him by any means. However, Tucker meant a lot to the Rockets defense, and it’s a tall order to ask Ennis to step in and immediately pick up the slack. Doesn’t mean he can’t, but I would rather not have to count on it. Everything said, I’m fine with acquiring Butler, but I’m also fine with keeping both Gordon and PJ. I think the Rockets have the personnel to hang with Golden State either way because I’m not sure how much Cousins helps Golden State. Yes, he gives them another weapon on offense, but the Rockets will torch him and his surgically-repaired Achilles on defense.
If I knew I was still going to be thirsty AF (for another title) after I finish the water I already have.
We don’t, so I don’t see why that matters. CP3 isn’t getting any younger or less injury prone. Butler is probably our best chance at a 3rd star while CP3 is still elite.
