I’m tired of people saying not to trade Tucker. Do you know how hard it is to acquire a star like butler? The truth is Tucker is a 33 year old role player. He can be replaced.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y9xs7mub I could see something like this, with us sending Sac a first rounder. More than likely I dont think we send over Tucker though, we could do a separate deal sending BKnight out for Kufus or Macklemore...then do another trade like the one above but keeping Tucker.
The NBA is a star league. Giving up Tucker and Gordon for a star is worth the gamble knowing you have a better shot against Golden State who just ramped up and added another great player (albeit injured at the moment) to their group. Tucker is valuable, both in terms of his intangibles on the court and in the locker room, but a move like this can elevate the Rockets to be standing side by side with the Warriors. For as much as we would lose defense and hustle with Tucker, we would gain it back with Butler. Same goes for the offense with Eric Gordon. The difference here is that you're getting Eric Gordons offense and a better version of PJ Tuckers defense wrapped into one player. The clock is ticking on the Rockets. CP isn't getting any younger. If you don't make this move and the Rockets don't win it this year, you're back with the same group next season and capped out again. The window here is pretty short as others have mentioned. When you have the chance to get a star in a league of stars that usually win championships, you take it -- even if it means compromising a player that might be the "heart" of your team.
Wolves get Cap relief from Dieng contract, Egod, and a first rounder.... I think its solid for a disgruntled star.
According to this, Butler should be much more willing to give up a little game to win a chip, since "He’s getting his max deal unless he gets seriously hurt and he doesn’t need to sacrifice to prove anything to other GMs." Melo's the one who needs to show he's still worth semi-big bucks. So why is it again that Butler won't be willing to NOT be the main guy this year? I honestly don't understand the point you're trying to make.
God, everyone here is just STAR STAR STAR. ITS JIMMY BUTLER. Yall really think this puts us even with them while losing both...nah it doesnt.
Paul/MCW Harden/Knight Butler/Ennis/Green Tucker/Melo Capela/Nene/Chriss This would make us the ultimate combo of hard-nosed meets finesse/skill. That's a team capable of dismantling a Warriors team even with Cousins.
Hmmmm, the host of the TYT (The Young Turks) Sports show called Scoop B a "friend of the program" in this random interview with Coach Nick of Bball Breakdown earlier today. Any added legitimacy there?
LeBron has meddled his entire career. It’s not some secret. He blasts his team in the press, and has hand picked his coaches at times (Tyronn Lue). He’s no Russell Westbrook when it comes to trusting others on the court, but he likes to have his hands in every aspect of whatever organization he’s with. As for Morey, there’s no doubt he gathers input from his players. He’d be a fool not to do so. Also, the fact he’s trying his hardest to make this deal without including Tucker proves it too. However, there’s truth in the comments J.J. Redick made about not signing with Houston as a free agent after CP3 was acquired. To take it a step further, the fact that P.J. Tucker was ever on the table in these trade discussions is another example. Tucker chose to sign here for less money than other offers before last season on the recommendation of his childhood friend, CP3. He played well, earning the respect of the team’s two best players, and the team pushed the Warriors to the brink in the Western Conference Finals. His reward? To be treated like an asset that’s expendable the moment another star became available, just like Redick before him feared. @Codman already said both CP3 and Harden would be affected if Tucker were to be dealt. Yet, Morey was willing to put him on the table the moment Butler hit the market.
Chris Paul's career average is 13.9 shots/game. Last season he took 13.8 shots/game. The prior year, his last with the Clippers, he took 12.9 shots/game. He didn"t sacrifice shots last year, that's just how he plays. Why couldn't Butler simply get the shot attempts that Gordon was taking? Eric Gordon had a higher usage rate (24.7) last season than CP3 (24.5). Paul's career usage is only 24.1. If we can swing a deal, there's shots and touches available for both Butler and CP3.
You are correct, Butler can easily get the same number of shots here. However, as you said, most of Gordon’s work was done off the ball. That hasn’t been Butler’s MO for some time now, as he tends to need the ball in his hands to score. While I think it can and would work, it’s just not as natural of a fit as Gordon playing next to either Paul or Harden is. But D’Antoni is an offensive wizard and if anyone can get it to work, he can.
Anyone know how much salary relief comes in attaching a draft pick? Is there any? Trying to find a way to keep Tucker and Nene.
Draft picks count $0 for the purpose of trades. Assuming that Gordon is in the deal, the Rockets would still need to include around $3.5m in additional salary. Since we have so many players that either cant be traded right now or are on non-guarenteed deals , there's not too many options. It pretty much has to be Tucker or Nene.
