Ehh... he said he was for whatever investigaton the committee wanted after the committee chair said there would be no FBI investigation. He was asked precisely whether he personally in favor of an FBI investigation and he was evasive (there is a pattern here) and would not respond if he personally would agree to or support an FBI investigation. Durbin asked him numerous times and he dodged the question.

Further, of course he would agree to what the committee wants because other than removing himself from consideration, he has to agree to the terms dictated by the committee.

Make no mistake, the committee does not want an investigation. They have to if they want to appease 3-4 Republican senators that otherwise would not support Kavanaugh.

I answered your questions... pick which time he lied under oath... I gave you 4-5 different times.

He has been exposed as shady and it really wasn’t anything he had to lie or be deceptive about. He still would have received approval to a federal judgeship and been approved for the appellate court and likely the Supreme Court... but he cannot help but be dishonest.

I posted that before your previous post, I find it hard to believe if he has been proven to have lied under oath nothing came of it but I guess it’s possible.

I wonder what the scope of the investigation is, if it is just looking into Dr Ford's accusations then anything in college would be irrelevant.

It would be relevant in that Kavanaugh almost certainly lied under oath about having never blacked out before. Now there's really no way of proving that one way or the other, but if someone came forward and said he was lying it would look bad....then again, I don't think that would cause people to not vote to confirm him.

Watergate, Whitewater, Iran-Contra and a million other scandals should have taught everyone - it's never the crime (in this case, figuratively), it's the cover up that gets you. Nothing good at all comes from trying to edit the truth. I appreciate the impulse, but it is a sucker's bet. He could have talked about drinking too much in college and learning from it, and made it into a nice story about personal growth and the whole thing would have been defused. People would have even been sympathetic.

    Instead, he's just Lyin' Brett.

Only if actual evidence surfaces, he said, she said won't cut it.

I can live with whatever the FBI's findings are.

The no.1 thing with the FBI is candor. Having that in mind and despite a limited investigation in scope and duration, I think we can be assured they will do a thorough job.

This is good for everybody, including Judge Kavanaugh. You don't want to be looking over your shoulder.

It is so sad and sick and strange that THIS is the guy who all the Republicans (in the Senate, on this board) choose to fight for.

You could have picked any one of 20 incredibly qualified conservative people, but yall are going to war on this hill with this scumbag. Nobody on the left loved John Roberts, but at least he is a qualified Justice. This guy is a joke.

It's ****ing bizarre. Do you not have the ability to admit you are wrong, ever?

This is how the right reacts to Trump dissenters. We're seeing an alarming rise in death threats against anyone who opposes Trump. And Trump doesn't seem to care, in fact, he seems to like it. Scary.

Jeff Flake on death threats for allowing Ford to speak:
"One man somewhere in the country called my office in Arizona saying he was tired of me 'interrupting my president,'" Flake said. "And of that offense of allowing Dr. Ford to be heard for this offense, me and my family would be taken out. I mention this with reluctance, but only to say we have lit a match, my colleagues. The question is do we appreciate how close the powder keg is?"

I doubt that the FBI agents will establish or disprove any facts with 100% certainty-- and this should not be what is expected of them. They are, however, likely to discover some relevant evidence to increase or decrease the perceived probability that BK is guilty. Like Morey's analytics thinking, this is a matter of probabilities,

Yes, Mollie you should. Because that is all Kavanaugh is accused of, is making a move on a girl.

I don't disagree this process has been a disaster and fwiw it won't be any better the next time a SC justice is nominated. I think changing the selection of a judge back to 60 votes would probably improve the process significantly since it forces bipartisanship.

I was disagreeing with the part about it being a really bad time to be an American. Things are pretty good overall. I don't know what kind of TV you watch on a daily basis, but turning off the usual cable news networks has been much better for me. They don't really report news and world events anymore. I think people have become recreationally obsessed with politics lately and I think cable news has done an excellent job at fomenting outrage and hype on both sides for ratings versus having rational, thoughtful, calm conversations. I've mentioned before, but when I watch Bloomberg I get a vastly different perspective on world events and how events in America are perceived by others outside of America. We get hyperfocused in our American bubble sometimes and it isn't positive or constructive.
