I don't know what to think of all this. As a fan for many years now, I just don't see Houston pulling this off. Also, to get this deal done chances are Houston has to send out picks. Do we really send out picks for a guy who might not even be here next summer. Maybe the Rockets see the window closing and are more inclined to act, but the same reluctance that stopped us from acquiring Melo doesn't seem to be present with Butler. Butler is more talented, but I just have a hard time seeing Morey take a gamble now, unless there's some critical info I'm overlooking.

He is damn talented, but we are on the hook for so many guys. Again, I don't see it. But, if I was a guy who could see it chances are I would be working for ESPN or something like that.

lulz...billionaires conspiring to build an owner-created super team to beat a player-created super team ... would be great for ratings ... and you know Durant would bolt afterwards, so it would even Pop-out a third team.

    The new NBA.

If we dump Capela down the line for picks/expiring or rookie scale contract, how much would that help the books?

Key is to avoid repeater tax.

Maybe Butler takes a Max, but without raises. That's $30m, which is two Arizas, and worth it.

But I think it's all moot, and merely an arguing tactic ... Tilman would be all in and not be out-bid. Still might lose him, but I'm confident Tilman wouldn't be outbid.

Agree. Seems like the NBA, is like the show pawn stars. A fake reality show. :)

I think it’s incredible that kmowing everything we know about Morey and how he values superstars above all else that folks still have a hard time believing he wouldn’t trade just about any combination of role players to acquire someone like Butler.

Gordon and Tucker are good players but you’re fooling yourself if you don’t think Morey knows damn well their production can be easily replaced w a player of Butler’s caliber plus another vet minimum signing.

Players like Butler are how you beat the warriors juggernaut. Don’t believe me? Go back and read and listen to everything Morey has ever said about team building. Stop marrying yourself to expendable players.

When you have a chance to put a team together w three top 15 players you do it and worry about everything else later. Period.

this is the only way i can see for us to get out of the repeater tax several years down the road, when 4 roster players would take up approx $150M of cap. we'd also have to basically run with only vet min contracts, no pj tuckers, to fill out the rest of the team. another option would be to try and move CP3's contract when it becomes an expiring. but i'm not sure how to move $44M into capspace :D

@heypartner is it possible for Paul and the Rockets to restructure his contract at some point in order to make it longer but cheaper (per year)?

i'm not sure about tilman either way. for instance if we were to finally win it all this year then i could see him just downsizing afterwards as well.

Okc had one top 10 player, one top 20 player, and one top 100 player but misused him and became a top 300 player.

Rockets have one top 5 player, one top 10 player, and Butler is borderline top 10 himself. Completely different situation, Okc never had three top 15 players.

Will sending Knight and 1st to Kings, then send 1st , Zhou to Minny work?

The CBA does not allow players to Renegotiate pay cuts, only increases. My understanding is that is a Union clause to prevent players from even being asked to take pay cuts.

So, there is no ability to Renegotiate a pay cut and Extend contract.

Note I'm using the official CBA terms "Renegotiate" and "Extend." Negotiating less guaranteed money (ala Ty Lawson), then cutting the player to save that money (i.e. a buyout) is different, but how does that support keeping Paul.

I don't know whether we'll get JB or not but I love the fact that we're always in the mix when a star becomes available.

You just can't say that about many other teams.

Yea. I've said this before but if a team comprised of Capela,Harden, CP3, Melo, and Butler can't beat the Warriors and win it all, if healthy, then there's no point in extending players (Melo/Butler) beyond this season.

If we get Butler, maybe to keep him on his next contract you can have one of those seasons as a kind of balloon payment.....pay more luxury tax that year, but make the other years slightly more manageable.

Eh, let's just see if we get him first. 'T'ain't my $$$.
