This seems like a horribly desperate political tactic that is disgusting. Just goes to show that both sides aren't above doing anything and everything they can to win...even if means sacrificing integrity and all that stuff. I can't see how anyone thinks he's guilty from the 'evidence' she's presented and with her timing. If this was just a normal guy everyone in this forum would think she's batsh!t crazy and lying. But he's not a 'normal' guy.

I couldn’t agree more. His self defense is so over the top that he makes himself less credible.

As the case is so often the “coverup” seems more distasteful than the alleged crime.

That said, it’s gotten to the level of insanity how a persons life is exposed in these situations. He doesn’t deserve to be held out to public ridicule in a spectacle like this.

There should be some bare minimum evidentiary requirements before a public hearing like this is held and this accusation just doesn’t seem to hold enough water for me. While I believe her testimony more than his there just isn’t enough actual evidence here to have this level of public discourse.

But, I also can't reconcile why Ford would subject her family and herself to all this on an unfounded claim she just made up...why...because of the Clintons and Dems? Did she get a huge payoff? I agree the timing of release of the letter by Feinstein feels like a last resort tactic to prevent his nomination. Feinstein is acting like it was her obligation with the #metoo movement and all to see this gets out considering what women are dealing with these days. But, the timing of it just raises a huge eyebrow given she's been sitting on this letter. And, then, all these stories start coming out of the woodwork from all these other people Kavanaugh supposedly wronged. This is just one big joke and I'm ashamed of both parties. I'm ashamed of our government.

The FBI is going solve all this? Right!

Some of these Senators should be serving cafeteria food in a retirement home. Bunch of old farts.

I'm concerned about what Mr. Graham might do. He would be a good preacher.

I don't recall ever blacking out from drinking beer. Passing out eventually maybe.

Even that time I drank a bunch of shots of Wild Turkey...I didn't black out. I basically destroyed my friend's house trying to go from an upstairs bedroom to the downstairs (fell down a flight of stairs and dented my back into his sheetrock wall). Then, I stumbled and punched out his backdoor glass. This was before finally being shoved into the back of a Pinto, being driven around crunched up back there, and finally pulling over so I could toss my cookies. But, I certainly didn't black out. I have perfect recollection as you can see.

I kind of wonder whether she was planning to wait until the last minute all along to create animosity towards Republicans for the midterms by dragging them through the mud in public. There are plenty of equally conservative people that Trump can ram through. I can't see any other endgame here. It's not like they are going to get someone with different politics. And I imagine she could have made him disappear quietly by leaking to the White House that something bad would be come up if it was really about just stopping him.

It seems like she must have really wanted the spectacle and circus or she would have/should have proceed differently - so what else can you possibly gain from the kerfuffle?

A big part of Kavanaugh's argument is recollecting all the good deeds from his life...like good deeds and bad deeds are mutually exclusive in one's life and you consistently only do one or the other with no crossover. I'm just saying it's not out of the realm of possibility to have done something shameful as a teen and then led a perfectly honorable rest of your life. I'm just a bit confused in that he seems to present himself as they are mutually exclusive. I believe he is a good person and a hard-working American. But, it doesn't necessarily mean he didn't meet with mischief as a teen that went beyond just drinking beers and going to parties. The fact is he has a woman he hardly knew that is accusing him of something quite serious...and she seems pretty sure of herself and who it was. And, if she does have some alternate motives, then we don't know what they are. It is pretty confusing all around on what to believe. There is only one truth, though, even though it kind of feels like there isn't at the moment.

I don’t think the immediate assumption most would make of any woman accusing a man of sexual assault is “she’s batshit crazy”.

That you assume this is pretty batshit crazy.

I would be happy with Kavanaugh and Judge doing a lie detector test to see the outcome of that. Why don't they do that? Wouldn't it be unusual for both parties to be able to beat a lie detector test? Of course, if he and Judge didn't remember doing it because they blacked out...then I assume they would pass?

Isn't it also possible that Ford could have a false memory of who did it because of the trauma itself? Are any of you psychologists? Kavanaugh could represent the face of a person who she is continually exposed to over the years because of his high profile job and she subconsciously associates that face with the trauma because she knew of him (not really even knowing him) back then during a time she suffered a horrible experience. Or, is that only in the movies?

Wait a second republicans think democrats are being petty LOL?

because the republicans have never been petty right? LOL

This is the crescendo climax of pettyness. Both parties deserve this and each other.

To the very specific phrasing of your question, false memories aren't a function of the trauma itself, so no. They come from "handling" the memory and putting it away again. When you access memories they are subject to alteration.
