lol, the Republicans are not falling for the trap. I seriously doubt she testifies now. The plan of making the Republicans on the committee look bad by exposing her flimsy story will not work so I fully expect her to back out.

This the understanding I operate on for an Occam's Razor. False claims are rare so my sympathies are with Ford. However, given the high stakes, the partisanship, etc this is not an average case, and there may be more incentive for false claims than in other circumstances. And, I suspect there might be a copycat effect as well, which makes me worry a bit about the other things that have come out of the woodwork since she went public, other accusations and people eager to put in their 2 cents on the character of one party or the other. They might be women lent the courage by Ford to speak up, or women who found a way to weave themselves into the story. I think the latter is unlikely at least with Ramirez, but I would not really say the second and subsequent claims carry the same odds of being false as the first one.

    just thinking out loud !

the Senate committee rushes to up-or-down vote, resulting in a 50/50 tie.
VP Pence casts the deciding vote to confirm BK as SCOTUS.

women voters, Rep & Dems, are pissed, leading to a large turn-out for the mid term.
Dems winning control of both the House & Senate.

the new congress calls for a FBI investigation of the sexual abuse claims against BK.
sufficient new evidence leads to impeachment proceedings against BK, who gets the ax.

LOL that's not "thinking out loud", that's coming up with a hilarious fantasy scenario completely detached from reality.

Actually they look like cowards now who cannot see themselves actually asking fair & objective questions under the circumstances. Hiring someone to do their job for them to try and give them political cover is cowardly.

Trump shouldn't fall for the trap of getting laughed at during his speech to the UN so he should hire Scarlett Johansson to read his speech for him. Makes perfect sense.... Own the Libs!!

Senate Republicans Eye Monday or Tuesday Floor Vote on Kavanaugh

Senate Republican leaders want to schedule a floor vote for Monday or Tuesday on the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court “unless something derailed it along the way,” according to Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Thune of South Dakota.

Thune told reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday that if all goes according to plan, Republicans could get the procedural gears turning over the weekend. That assumes Thursday’s hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee featuring Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of sexual assault, does not alter the current trajectory that Senate GOP leaders have set.

When asked if that meant floor debate on Kavanaugh could take place Monday or Tuesday, he said, “I would think so, if things were to stay on schedule, unless something derailed it along the way.”

“Again, we’ll see what happens on Thursday. But at this point, if nothing changes, my assumption would be from a timing standpoint that we could begin that process Friday, Saturday timeframe and wrap it up next week sometime,” the Republican Conference chairman said

Under that timeline, a Judiciary Committee markup might take place Friday, allowing Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to file a cloture to cut off debate on the nominee as early as Saturday, which would set up a Monday vote to limit the debate on the Supreme Court nominee.

You're just upset that you know Democrats are losing out on propaganda, you can lie about it, but it's too obvious. They were hoping that male Republicans could be spun to be picking on a female "victim" and now they lost that. Outside council can do their job and expose her as a fraud without the optics of it being men picking on women.

The Republicans want outside counsel because there isn't a single woman on their committee and they are afraid that one or more of them are so out of touch that they will say something unbelievably ignorant or offensive.

That is the same reason that the Democrats don't want outside counsel.

I suppose the relevant question would be, has there ever been a situation where outside counsel has been used? If it has, then there really isn't much to debate. If it hasn't in the past, well that makes it a little more difficult.

There is a real chance that neither the democrats or republicans want her to testify on Thursday, depending on what comes out about accuser #3 and #4.

Something "derails it along the way"? Oh Senator Thune, just say you mean the other 2-3 other women claiming that he sexually assaulted or raped them.

I don't think that the democrats win the house/senate.

However, if there is evidence that BK participated in gang rapes and purposely plied alcohol to women to rape them.... then year, there would be impeachment hearings as soon as the democrats have the house/senate.

It wouldn't even come to that, the republicans would attempt to force him to resign.

No, he means if some credible accusations or evidence shows up. If it's nothing but the 2 baseless allegations, then they'll have it confirmed on Monday or Tuesday.

If there's evidence that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim....then that could really change things.

Again, that's just extreme partisan fantasy detached from reality. You can say "if" and then literally anything afterwards, but you look ridiculous when your "if" is so out there. How about "if" we find out over the weekend that Beto O'Rourke is a member of a secret child rape organization with Phil Bredesen, Bill Nelson, Joe Donnelly, and Joe Manchin....that would REALLY change the midterms wouldn't it? You see how crazy even talking about ridiculous **** like that makes one sound?

There now 3-4 women claiming that they have either assaulted or raped by Kavanaugh.

Only one other Justice in over 200 years has had an allegations of sexual assault and that was a single woman making the claim.... we now have someone that has 3-4 claims.

You can down play it all you want, but it is a problem and pushing a vote without knowing the circumstances around two of the cases is really reckless and could result in a political nightmare for the Republicans if there is any concrete evidence as claimed by the attorney for one accuser. Facing a possible need for impeachment or forced resignation would be the political plague before the election.

Most likely nothing comes out of all of this, and he is confirmed and other than being bloodied and bruised in the court of public opinion. However, with hanging allegations out there it is playing with fire. They better be as confident as you are that they are baseless.

What makes you think the accuser is bluffing in saying that she wants to testify? She is already facing death threats. What could be worse than that?

These GOP senators don't have to look bad if they don't expose their tribalism & lack of empathy & possibly even misogyny. Based on their statements so far, they seem absolutely sure that this is a smear campaign by Dems using a "mixed-up" individual, so it makes sense why they are not able to question Ford in an objective manner. It just proves their INEPTITUDE as an impartial committee tasked at vetting people. How can they take on an investigation when they can't even question a witness/accuser properly.

They should at least participate and do their JOB along with their hired goon.
