To the public, yes, but his misdeeds were well known in comic circles.....also a massive difference is that with Cosby you had actual credible allegations against him. If there were credible allegations against Kavanaugh that would change things.

Odd, the dastardly Democrats didn't think to pull this political game with Gorsuch. Or perhaps, Gorsuch simply wasn't accused of sexually assaulting anyone?

Interesting, I don't think there's an effort to "intimidate" him. Instead, perhaps the woman receiving death threats and now hiding her family from the public is suffering an effort at intimidation?

The New Yorker on Sunday published a story on a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct during his freshman year at Yale. Beyond the contents of the allegations themselves, there is another explosive layer that reflects more broadly on the Republican Party:

Senior GOP staffers knew about Ramirez’s allegation last week, and instead of taking a pause
to investigate, they appeared to try to speed up the confirmation process.

If the New Yorker’s reporting is to be believed, the GOP isn’t just trying to hastily confirm Kavanaugh because they believe he will be a good Supreme Court justice and want the matter handled — it’s because they’re concerned about what else could come out.

It’s part of a broader pattern of haste that’s played out with the Kavanaugh nomination:
    • Thousands of pages of documents from Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush White House were released the day before his confirmation hearing began at the start of September.
    • Republicans have refused to
      • call for an FBI investigation into the accusation
      • subpoena witnesses to testify along with Ford and Kavanaugh about her allegations.

    I don't get it. I just don't.

There are a bunch of Gorsuch-like dudes lined up like so many conservative shark's teeth, ready to go.

Why this nimrod Kavanaugh? Did they owe him something?

Guessing that Kavanaugh gave Trump a loyalty pledge.

What other Supreme Court Justices have been accused of sexual assault other than Thomas and Kavanaugh?

Sorry ... I think it is disqualifying when we are talking about a life term for a Supreme Court Justice.

These should be the absolute best of the best, with the highest ethics and judicial mind.

I am not saying BK raped or tried to rape someone..... however ANYONE who did should be disqualified...... I don't care if it is a "D" or an "R".

These are very very exclusive positions, and there are a number of fine and capable judges to choose from, we don't need to be taking chances.... we are talking about a Supreme Court Justice and not someone that is applying to be a truck driver or waiter.

Possibly, but I think that Trump just really likes him and he is loyal when he finds someone he really likes.

When all is said and done, he is only loyal to himself, but he has his "people" and he will push for them.... to a point.

Truthful allegations or not, the damage is done.

The threats to kavanaughs family and the lady's family is ridiculous and pathetic. Both sides need to be better.

Who are you responding to? What idiot in their right mind would ever consider Kavanaugh a moderate?

Probably so. He's in kind of a no-win situation. If he withdraws his candidacy, it looks like he's admitting to these acts in high school and college (which he may well not have committed). If he stays on, he'll carry this stain of the accusations, like a scarlet A for assault. But maybe he'll end up on the SCOTUS. (And if he really has flawed character, he could use his powerful position for a type of vengeance against women, TBH. If he doesn't have character flaws, he could turn into a great justice, respected by his colleagues, while people outside the court will just think whatever they think, as they do with C. Thomas, who is by no account a great or influential or really participatory justice.)

Given the age of the accusations and the lack of hard evidence either way, it's going to be impossible to fully determine if he's guilty of this behavior or innocent of it.

The whole thing is awful. I tend to think these women would not make this stuff up, but clearly lots of (men) disagree with me on that.

Okay, I'll take your word on that.

I would say this with more confidence though: a woman who's been attacked or groped or improperly propositioned, a la revealed junk, etc, (which is a lot of women, unfortunately) is less likely to dismiss these allegations, and those against the POTUS, and so forth. Cheers.
