NYT:Rosenstein Suggested He Secretly Record Trump and Discussed 25th Amendment

Rosenstein denied it. Trump straight up accepted Putin's and Roy Moore's denials. Trump should be good with the denial.

 

I don't know if this story is true (given the proclivity of the NYT to make **** up), but I'm quite amused to see you dismiss this so out of hand.

What's fireable about discussing application of the 25th Amendment? If you have a president unable to discharge the powers of the office, you need his officials to be able to discuss invoking the amendment or else it's worthless. I could see wearing a wire would be fireable, but no indication that he actually did it, so that's irrelevant. All this shows is, again, a lack of personal loyalty to Trump -- which of course for him is the unforgivable sin, though to me it is a necessary component of democracy. Besides which, Rosenstein already showed his disloyalty with the plan he ultimately decided on back then -- appointing Mueller as Special Counsel. I'd guess he ultimately settled on that move as the better alternative to pursuing a coup based on the 25th Amendment; a good choice, in my opinion.

 

Sounds like McCabe knows he's screwed and wants to take down as many people with him as he can. There's no question that if there is evidence of this allegation in his memos that there needs to be an investigation into this and if proven true, Rosenstein needs to step down.

 

It's hilarious that Libs think the Trump administration leaked this. He doesn't need a reason to fire Rosenstein, he could do it tomorrow if he wanted. Though it's likely Sessions, Rosenstein, and Wray are all getting axed after the midterms.

 

No it means we are living in the f'ing Twilight Zone. Just because someone is perceived to be a billionaire outsider. It is separate all together if he is a senile lunatic.

 

This is like the 3rd or 4th story NYT has gotten wrong in one week. They deserve to be failing. My guess is they will walk this story back by tomorrow. They just keep getting burned by their anonymous sources. They are being used. If a source gets you to print lies, then you should just out the source.

 

Everything with the trump presidency is such a circus. Is there a "resistance"? I am sure there are people in government who think trump is a clown, just as I think there are people all over the world that think he is a clown. But is there a "deep state" working against him?

Could Rosenstein say in just "gee, trump is looney tunes, lets invoke the 25th? Sure, sarcastically or in jest. Did he put a wire? Did he seriously talk to people to invoke the 25th?

 

You could make secret tapes, or you could read the president's twitter account or listen to any time he is trying to express himself in words

 

You might find it surprising that (at least in this case) I agree with you. I don't think Rosenstein said what is purported...at least not with any seriousness.

How does that make you feel about the NYT's reporting then? How many stories are they getting flat out wrong these days?

I agree with this. For Trump, it's premature. He's decided he can't fire people before the midterms. So, he'd like for controversies to come up in November when he needs the pretext.

 

Why is the NYT ****ing up another story being turned into an indictment of Trump?

 

I think the NYT is an excellent news source. Do they make mistakes in their reporting? Sure, but by and large their reporting is excellent and serves the public well.

 

My guess is this was thrown out there by the Trump admin so they have an excuse to fire Rosenstein. Then his replacement can fire Mueller, and the people revolt. How convenient that this comes out right after Manafort and Cohen now are confirmed to be cooperating with Mueller.

 

Rosenstein must go immediately. This is unacceptable behavior.

Jeff Sessions could save his own job by firing Rosenstein for cause today.

And no, Trump doesn't want to be the one to terminate the Mueller investigation. He wants Mueller to hurry the **** up and wrap it up. It's gone on entirely too long. Mueller definitely wants to keep it going as long as possible. Year and a half and still no evidence of collusion? That just means we have to keep investigating!

 

This is it. Hit piece by Trump to give excuse to fire Rosenstein.
