Thanks. Yea, saw that. Knight would have to be involved to make salaries match.

We unloaded Anderson already. Dieng shouldn’t be as difficult.

Either Cyber or Cod mentioned the Rockets working a three team trade already as well so this very well could be our way in the door; rather than offering young players, helping move on from old ones

The concern becomes how much will TF pay in luxury tax and for how long.

We still have to send out salaries though to make a three team trade work.

I'm totally 100% against a deal that sees us move out Gordon and Knight in some combination that brings back Jimmy Butler and Dieng here. Someone has to be on the team who is willing to just shoot a 3 ball.

Gordon and Capela for Butler and Dieng?

    That would hurt

Theoretically we might also add Chriss for Tyus Jones, not saying Minnie would/should do this, and i don't want to turn this into a random trade thread but...

Gordon, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, Nene for Butler

    Knight for Dieng

    Chriss for Tyus Jones

    Capela/Zhou/Dieng/Hartenstein
    PJ/Melo
    Butler/Ennis
    Harden/Green
    Paul/Jones/MCW

And we would still have the full tax MLE to play with in the buyout market fwiw.

“The luxury tax hasn’t even come up once this summer” - Tilman circa mid 2018

We'd still have Gerald Green. He'll put them up plenty. Don't forget about MCW either.

I could get on board for this, though I'd hate that we'd be stuck with Dieng. SMH.

I would worry that contract would hurt us long term due to luxury tax.

I actually don't hate this from Rockets' perspective (keeping PJ, still have that backup hammy)

For the wolves it depends on how much premium they put on moving Dieng's body (my guess is high, in essence that's a deadlier body to move than Ryno's..).

Would that Brandon Knight had an expiring contract. Alas but no.
Look, we could all just suck it up and go to Landry's once or twice a year for the next few years. (Wash down whatever food you get with a beer or two, it might neutralize the taste.)

I think Dieng would be going to a third team.

    Something along the lines of:

    Minn Rec:
    Eric Gordon
    PJ Tucker
    Iman Shumpert

    Houston Rec:
    Jimmy Butler
    Kosta Koufos

    Sac Rec:
    Gorgui Dieng
    Nene
    multiple picks

Re: [Zach Lowe] - Unloading Gorgui Dieng’s remaining $48M.
Minny wouldn't prefer Lou Williams + expirings if it involves a Dieng salary dump?

I would gladly deal Tucker and Gordon for Butler. I can have two of Harden/Butler/Paul on the floor at all times and Butler absorbs 37 minutes a game himself. Not to mention the improved perimeter defense I have with Butler added.

As for power forward, I can run Anthony and Ennis out there just fine. The Rockets were going to give minutes at the 4 to Anthony anyway. There are also ways for the Rockets to improve and acquire a suitable 4 to play 20 minutes a night. Even Minnesota has given Butler some minutes at the 4.

As far as Dieng, I don't think that TF would agree to take on that salary for 4 years.... but assuming that he wants to, Dieng straight up for Knight works.
Knight was not being counted on for heavy minutes and there is a real chance that he is a below average NBA player this season. So I do not consider Knight a major loss. If the Rockets were really concerned, they could roll Tyus Jones into the deal.

It is all VERY VERY unlikely, but if it magically happened I think the Rockets would be an even bigger threat to GS. Granted, it would require dealing Chriss later in the year for a 4 and may cost the Rockets moving Nene and a pick for a 4.

Same here, i was never a fan of Ryan but i think Dieng is a worse player (which is debatable i guess) on a worse contract (and this isn't debatable) so, yeah...that might be too much for Tilman, wouldn't blame him if he would refuse that deal for that to be honest, that third year at 17M is probably a big negative even with the cap rising again.

    Absolutely.

They don't want Knight. Knight/first round pick to the Clippers for Harris first, then …..

Remember it is not a package for Butler. It is one for one deal.
