I think republicans made a mistake not involving the FBI. They could have sent an FBI agent earlier in the week to take down her statement. Instead, we are going to see a more polished and prepared version at the hearing since she now has all these people to prepare her for the testimony. The republicans could have used her FBI statement against her if there were inconsistencies with her testimony.

Also, lets be real.... we are NEVER going to know what happened or didn't happen. She will say it happened and Kavanaugh and his buddy will say it didn't. People that want Kavanaugh in will say she isn't believable and people that want to stop the nomination will believe her and call Kavanaugh a rapist, etc, etc. I doubt anyone has their minds changed.

 

The FBI investigation with Clarence Thomas took 3 days. This woman is asking for extra days to ensure her safety after she received death threats.

Why are republicans afraid of a few days delay to ensure her safety and for the FBI to conduct an investigation and speak to witnesses?????

I'll tell you why - because they are afraid he is guilty and need to get him through before the truth comes out. They can't risk him being found out. They are afraid of the allegations being true and are willing to appoint an attempted rapist to the SCOTUS.

She has several versions of the story, no one can verify her claims, the conditions she has put on her testimony show she isn't a serious witness, as was her claim that she wanted to stay anonymous. It also doesn't help her credibility to iota with what her attorneys have said, and the people she has aligned herself with to get through this situation. It's likely she suffered through something as a teenager, there is 0% it involved Kavanaugh.

What do you expect the FBI to do with the complete and utter lack of evidence we know about this situation? She can't accurately name the who, where, and when. 3 people have made official statements that contradict her claims, she has refused to do so. The democrats refused to ask questions of the 3 people that have made official statements. The judiciary committee is doing their job as defined in the Constitution, yet the democrats refuse to participate. The FBI has already completed 6 background checks on Kavanaugh.

If you were Kavanaugh, and someone whom you may have never met in person, claimed you assaulted her 36 years ago, when you were just as likely out of the country, my guess is you would demand that she present her evidence as soon as possible.

The FBI can't magically invent evidence that doesn't exist, they have already said this isn't their purview.

The people she claims were there have already given sworn statements on the matter under felony obligations to be truthful? What more do you want them to do? Tell the FBI the same things, while under double secret probation? Grassley also offered to come to her in any setting that she wanted.

I'm not buying that she needs "extra days to secure her safety." She has the entire DNC machine behind her and hundreds of thousands of dollars in gofund me donations. She can hire 24 hour security and I bet the senate even offered to provide security for her. I believe it is more to do about bringing in these people to help her with her testimony and wants more time to prepare.

I also do not believe Republicans want to speed it through because they think he is guilty. They believe it is not true and a smear campaign at the 11th hour and that is not unreasonable considering how Feinstein and the democrats handled the whole thing and sat on it for weeks. It smells a little fishy... even Bill Maher acknowledged that.

I bet if the Democrats agreed to have hearings and vote on a new nominee before the elections Trump would withdrawl Kavanaugh's nomination.. but we know that isn't happening. So yea, it is political.

I don't care if the hearing is Monday or Thursday or the following week. I just don't buy her reasoning for not coming Monday.

As long as they get a chance to vote on him before the midterms I don't care. They should do a thorough job and gather all the information they can.

 

Then why did Feinstein sit on the allegation for 6 weeks? Why has she still not turned over the underacted letter to the committee, so it can become part of the public record? Why she is asking for the accused to testify before her, which eliminates any chance he has at confronting his accuser, which is a basic tenet of the justice system?

 

This isn't about Feinstein, it's about the accuser and Kavanaugh. And she is only asking for the FBI to get involved and for her safety to be ensured, not to deny anyone justice. If you want to talk about basic tenets of the justice system, why is Trump not letting the FBI do their job?

I never said she made it up, and am not going to speculate on her reasoning for coming forward. I don't know what happened and like I said in my first post in this thread, I don't think we will ever know what happened or if it happened at all. It will just be Kavanaugh and the other guys that said it never happened against her word.
