All of his dirty laundry is getting aired and its really changed my view of him. I dont think his diva b**** attitude would mesh well with this mature team
Yeah I do. In the Rockets offense, Melo is going to get his shots up, he's going to be 3rd option by default and nothing will stop him outside of being benched from getting his shots up. I think Melo is going to surprise a lot of people here. Dude is skilled up, always been, his game hasn't aged poorly, he's still scoring well in ISO situations, he's 22 on the all time scoring list for a reason and I think playing with Harden and CP3 will make him look a lot younger. People underestimate what confidence in a team and in general can do for a player. Not only that but Melo just offensively more versatile than Butler.
maybe back in 2012 or 2014 he’d be a 3rd option ahead of Butler, but at this point in his career there’s just no way Melo’s offense has been declining for years now, and Butler is the superior player by far.
in no way is a 34 year old declined melo more versatile than butler. theres nothing versatile of his offense now. its a face up jumpshot more times than not. his driving ability has severely declined. butler is the vastly superior player if butler was on this team and melo was more of a focal point then butler, hou just deserves to lose with that type of system and mentality
You're not paying attention or aren't smart enough to figure it out. We were all staying on subject but you're too ****ing high and mighty to go back, get down off your high horse and figure out what folks are getting at. It takes some investment of time in your colleagues rather than blowing off their words like a cheap idea. I used to not have any problems with you, but if you're going to be disrespectful for no reason other than to pump up your own ego.. maybe we do have a problem?
I think there are definitely risks with a hypothetical Butler trade. But people forget that this team isn't as good as the Warriors. At this point the Rockets does not match up in a playoff series if both sides are fully healthy. Morey is looking at Butler because adding Butler would put the Rockets on par with the Warriors talent for talent. And it would allow the Rockets more leeway to rest everyone during the regular season so we'd be fresh in the playoffs. This trade would go with Morey's philosophy or raising the team's risk profile. More risk, more rewards. It's the right move if the goal is to win a championship, even if the downside may result in another 2016 season.
I remember talking about this with you two before. But Melo's offense hasn't actually declined, he's had one bad year, his last year with the Knicks was a good year in that it was a typical year (he even made the All-star team), and even on the Thunder his ISO numbers didn't take this steep decline. He's still one of the best ISO players in the NBA. In OKC the problem was that he wasn't getting his ISO shots. He's getting that here, hell, we give anyone ISO touches here, he's getting that. Melo's game wasn't super reliant on athleticism, he's going to age fine, he's still going to put up numbers even at his age. He just needs his rhythm. He's going to get good shots here, he's going to get to put the ball up, and he's going to be motivated because getting shots up is what gets him ticking and going. As for Butler, offensively he's overrated. I'd want him as a 3rd and 4th option, which he'd be here anyway, but teams aren't going around worrying about Butler going off. He just isn't dynamic offensively, he hits shots, sometimes, every now and then, he gets hot...if he's not then he looks very meh on that end of the court. We saw that in the playoffs, did anyone actually fear Butler around here? I think teams would ____ bricks if Melo starts going off because he can still score in a variety of ways and be a matchup nightmare. At the end of the day, Melo had one bad year in OKC, that's what people are judging him on. His last year in NYC was about par for Melo. @Reeko you say 2012 Melo right? 2017 Melo: 22 ppg on .433 shooting and a .466 efg% 2012 Melo: 22 ppg on .430 shooting and .463 efg% Melo's one year in OKC is an aberration, in 2017 he was still Melo just on a bad team. Sure, he's part of the reason that team was bad, but this will be the best team he's played on in his entire career. I think we are getting NYKs Melo, a guy that can score in bunches, still won't play defense, but I don't think he's going to lack for scoring. Now, the season is around the corner, we'll see who's right I guess.
Ummmmm, you're the one not keeping up here. Lemme splain it to you. Chief Dirtybutt of the NoWiping Tribe slammed me for being off-topic by bringing up Winslow and Oubre in this holy grail Butler thread. (You know, the only Butler thread we got going here, right? Not!!!) when I was asked what I had heard regarding Butler and us. I simply pointed out to Chief Dirtybutt that he is being a silly drunk hypocritical Chief Dirtybutt for scalping me for talking about us and Butler and pretending that everybody else was on topic and I was off-topic. It wasn't about picking on you. I don't care that you mentioned Yoko Ono. I'm sure you had a reason. I give you the benefit of the doubt. Just like I should be given the benefit of the doubt when I'm asked what I know about Butler and us. Winslow and Oubre is about us. Even if Chief Dirtybutt don't believe it. Apparently Chief Dirtybutt is once again high from sniffing his own hypocritic flatulence. And if you're not careful you'll inhale some of his toxic fumes too. Don't sniff his fingers. Send him back to his own teepee to flatulate alone. And you and I will toke the peace pipe. K? Target: Winslow
haha what a surprise. someone using "overrated" once again. if JB is "overrated", what exactly is melo then? and this is where people mistake w/ melo. You're posting as if he just had one bad year recently. his game has been on the decline for years. We're not judging him by one year. it didn't just start in okc. it continued through it with the same downward trend. And unless he adjusts his ego to a lesser role instead of wanting to be featured, itll do the same once again. then what is the next excuse? there's already a long list of it to date you think teams are more worried about melo than JB today? you mean the same guy teams don't want on their team compared to someone teams will be knocking at the door to pay big money for once he's a free agent. please man, put the liquor down
Why then did 2017 Melo put up the same numbers as 2012 Melo? He been on the decline since 2012? He was an all-star in 2017. I literally just showed you the stats though? So, other than 2018, what was his other bad year? He been an all-star every year...2009-2017...all-star every year. When was this decline? When he went to OKC to play with Westbrook? You want to talk about ego then you may want to drop Butler from the conversation. Problems in Chicago, one year in Minny and problems there too. Melo at least has a reason to be cocky, #22 on the all-time scoring list, perennial all-star, and likely lock for the Hall Of Fame. Understandable why he'd be cocky, unsure why Butler has the ego he apparently does. Eh, teams turned down trade offers for Harden. Teams wanted Melo in 2018, we were one of them, Portland another, and OKC another. This was in 2017. He has one bad year and everyone thinks he's done? I guess we'll see.
you keep worrying about mere numbers and not actual play. theres nothing impressive about carmelo's numbers
the number of teams about to give him max sure do think so. all the coaches that selected him as a star do as well
