Not if you lose Gordon and Tucker, two major contributors against the Warriors AND the fact that depth was one of the reason Paul pulled a hammy and we had no one to replace him either.

All you did was combined the production of those two in one person and killed your depth.

Last year we played a 6 man rotation?

Planning on 5 man rotation against them this year?

Besides, that "whoever" guy will the one Warriors will attack non-stop on defense.

if he wants to be Tha Man then LAL is out and for location TOR is no chance. LAL would be better off longer term just keeping their kids and trying to sign kauai next summer while the same goes for TOR

Tucker would be a HUGE loss to the defense.

I wouldn't want to lose him for anything besides a true bonafide superstar but those haven't been falling off trees.

I'm guessing the hope would be that Brandon Knight and MCW could make up for the offensive and defensive production EGo provides off the bench.

Tucker just isn't as replaceable, even for the most hopeful.

Well if we still do try to trade for him and hope he resigns at least his trade value is lower now.

I guess my question is about whether or not we even know if Tilman would be opening to paying a tremendous amount of money over the next five years in luxury / salary money. Having 3 modern day maxes is a tremendous about money.

If the Rockets want to be in the conversation, they have to start off by telling Butler, look we want to trade for you and we want to give you a max contract, full bird, next offseason. Forget trying to build one in some other big market, hoping Kyrie shows up, join one now.

    From Woj's article:

" If a team doesn't think it can sign Butler long-term -- or has the salary cap space to sign him outright in July like the Clippers, Knicks and Nets -- the idea of unloading valuable assets in a trade makes less sense now." -- Woj's thoughts
My initial thought of Butler releasing a list is both to help Thibs -- as a solid, to help him get max return -- and to help Bulter encourage contenders (if on the list) to not fear a rental. But this list seems useless (since as Ian Begley says, Mills just said he won't trade for someone he can sign),

So borders on contentious, post meeting, in that it provides Thibs with nothing of use. Seems like the meeting didn't go well.

couldn't agree more. few days ago i even posted in the nba dish thread i wouldn't pay him the MAX. on HOU he'd be the 3rd best player for at least a couple seasons until CP3 turns grey

Need a secret handshake deal disguised as a one-year rental/fire sale.

Teams are saying this to lower the price. It's the same reason we traded for CP3. Things can change in two seconds, and if you get the chance to acquire a star long-term, you make it happen. A smart gm on that list, will make the offer and get the guaranteed return.

Thibs is delusional and will end up getting fired or losing all his best players or possibly both

So what you're saying is similar to @The Cat : By providing a useless list, you do a scorched Earth approach to not helping Thibs, which presumably opens the door to him accepting smaller offers throughout the market.

But, if as a player, you really want out before the season starts (as Butler reportedly says, and Melo did too, last year), your best play is put real teams on your list, no? The Scorched Earth approach to expanding your market/suitors by depressing your price (with a useless list) would require Thibs to accept that lower price...which could take time.

Or trying to win by building something yourself which is way more honorable than super team chasing betas.

I really am not convinced players put that much thought into it.

Fans look real hard at top down trade value, advanced stats, etc.

Players perspective is much different, because the players aren't just assets they are friends, personalities, etc.

Don't think Butler is scared to answer questions at media day like Melo was.

I think Morey calls the bluff. Even if it's just a 1 year rental.

The question becomes, should we pull and OKC and still try to get him without a guarantee he re-signs?

If we are willing to give him the 5-year max (starts at 30% of the cap with 8% raises), which is a gigantic overpay, I highly doubt he walks from a championship team.
