Strange but true ...

The day after the sexual assault made news the GOP operatives trot out 65 women who knew BK from his all boys HS. It is like the GOP knew this **** was in the pipe and was well prepared for it.

The third unnamed person in the assault makes a press release that he did not remember the assault. It is like the GOP had the third unnamed person ready to say he strangely remembered the 30 years in the past party but not the assault.

 

I think the biggest cloud over Kavanaugh is the overwhelming panic that the entire GOP has to get him shoved in the door at any cost. Screw everything... we don't care, we don't want him... we NEED HIM.

What is it that Kavanaugh resembles for the GOP that any other Federalist Society judge doesn't? I don't get it other that he's made some sort of deal already that gives overwhelming power to the right.

That reason alone makes this a hard NO. Nobody should want a SCOTUS judge confirmed under this premise. I don't care if you are right or left. If you are conservative, you should be pushing McConnell to pick someone else like Gorsuch who at least has a clean record.

 

if this falls through I think it would be interesting to watch Trump nominate an even more conservative judge as a replacement.

 

Which is why I'm asking why the folks on the Right aren't pushing their reps to pull this nomination ASAP. You have a list of Gorsuch's, some who might have a clean record. Why in the world would you want to deal with Kananaugh at this point?

 

Could be there is some concern that this would delay things past the elections. And that a change in the Senate could change the game.

 

A masterwork so far by the Dems - I wonder how long before more women develop the courage to come forward (I'm guessing 3 days).

 

Maybe this was only a single youthful indiscretion on BK's part that could have lead to being tried and sentenced as an adult to hard time?

I was very skeptical of the story, and rolled my eyes at the timing...... but if there are indeed recorded doctor notes from 6 years ago with these allegations, and associated treatment; well that potentially changes things quite a bit.

 

That is exactly what would happen.

However an argument can be made, that perhaps the next person he would appoint would have more of a moral backbone.

The Republicans are in some ways boxed in. If this lady is not entirely discredited, then they will have to live with having two Supreme Court Justice's that they appointed that have had serious claims of sexual assault against them. It will be played up by the left, and it will only inflame the #METOO movement more and will quite possibly motivate some women to vote "(D)" and not "(R)".

 

Do you feel that they should pull this nomination based on what has come out? I dont think many are ready for that. Feinstein didn't even think it was worth bringing up before if we believe her.

 

It is getting there.

The accuser is a college professor, has had continued therapy as a result of the claim and supposedly in medical records from years ago she has discussed the attempted rape to her.

Assuming that this information is correct, then it may be smarter for the Republicans to move on to another candidate. Unless they are convinced that the accuser is not credible, it isn't good optics having an investigation and possibly having the lady appear on television discussing the case in all it's details.

Also, having another accused sexual assaulter on the Supreme Court isn't exactly the look the Republicans want with the #METOO movement and in 2018.

It is interesting that the Democrats have dug in on this nomination, as he is not as conservative as the other choices that Trump had to choose from. I think they have over played their hand in the long run.
