Okay, we don't like each other. That's fine.
Just making that post to calm me down. Was very upset when Cole was off the record for the win. I HATE how the pitcher who is charged with a blown save can also earn the win. That needs to stop, I don't like how the 'goat can become the hero. MLB needs to change it so if the pitcher who is otherwise in line for the win has a blown save, either the pitcher previously in line for the win, or the pitcher who comes in next gets the win, but it is what it is. As I've said, if you don't root for your team's starter to get the win, I don't believe you are a true baseball fan. But just me.

In the early going, to my eyes, it looked like Boston had more swagger both on the mound and the plate. But our guys turned the table on them. Really good job!

The "goat becomes a hero" concept you're complaining of is purely a fan (or media) construct. The players, managers, and everyone else in baseball know that the pitcher of record is often not the best (or worst) pitcher during the game.

So, because I don't care as much about pitchers wins/losses, I'm not a true baseball fan? Good luck with your crusade to change who gets the win or who doesn't. If it were up to me, there would be no pitchers wins/losses, just how the team does in the games they start... its completely arbitrary and means nothing in terms of how good they truly are.

You're quite strange. Who were you posting under previously? Or you just started posting here this year for the hell of it?

That's a weird (some may argue remarkable) thing to say. I root for my team (Astros) to get a win. I have been following the team since its inception as the Colt .45s. Regardless of their record, I'd watch on TV or listen on the radio. I was really rooting for them to win World Series game 7. I had absolutely no caring as to which pitcher got the win. It didn't bother me one bit when McCullers exited after 2.1 innings. In your eyes, I am not a true baseball fan.

    True baseball fan?

    What a silly conversation.

As long as we have winning and losing pitchers, the win should go to the guy who contributed the most to the win. I agree with you on this point.

Morton returns today. He was manhandled by BOS earlier this season, but Sox's starter has a 8.10 career ERA vs Astros in two career starts. Correa and Marwin (also returning) are 3-3 career batting vs him. Morton's PC should be limited to 80.

And Severino has been mostly garbage since the ASB.

I also believe that if a pitcher makes an error that leads to a run, he should get the error AND an earned run. He let the guy on base in the first place. It's almost rewarding the pitcher for screwing up a play by allowing his ERA to go down once he gets the next out.

Agreed....have an individual ERA and a Team ERA.

Also, assume there is a runner on third and the pitcher attempts to pick him off and makes a bad throw. Run scores, unearned run. Assume in the same situation the pitcher throws a wild pitch and the runner scores. Earned run. Makes no sense.

While we're at it...why can't the official scorer "assume a double play"? If Altuve throws the ball away on the turn when the batter would have clearly been out, why can't that be an error?

Also, assume Astros are winning by a run. Osuna comes in the 9th and walks the bases loaded. Rondon comes in. First guy hits a SF to tie the game, next 2 strike out. Osuna gets a "hold" since the Astros were still winning when he left the game even though the run is charged to him. Rondon gets a blown save. Positive stat for the guy who walks the bases loaded. Negative stat for the guy that did a good job to not lose the game.

If they were in a tight playoff race or in the playoffs, he probably would have pitched, but since they have a pretty good sized lead, no need to take chances.

Good. Needs to be done until he gets hitting again. I'd have even considered moving him to 6th, below White.

It was long overdue to get him out of the cleanup.
