This sort of jives with the theory that they will play the 3 guard lineup more often with EG.

You are overrating him. It's not only the guards that torched him, Ingles torched him as well.

Having said that, Melo's success will depend on the efficiency of his offense. We can deal with that kind of mediocre defending off the bench as long as he is dominating second units offensively.

PJ Tucker is a better SF than Melo.

well when we switch he will have to guard everyone. but i always figured this guy was our PF. he's not quick enough to get by smaller players on O anymore, or stay in front of them on D.

this is mostly telling with how many minutes he might play. exclusively PF probably means less minutes.

_holic keeps ppsting about how Carmelo will "finally" be able to keep Green from being a free safety on defense but Capela did that EXACT same thing last year. HP, glad you came in here to set that straight. Keep resetting that when that bs comes around.

To make the statement that Melo will be a PF exclusively, that just tells me the Rockets will use PJ Tucker and Ennis at SF. Tucker is a better PF than SF but Tucker is a better SF than Melo is a SF. So, it is degrees.

We'll see Gordon at SF too.

Better? Mebbe. Different? Fershure. I'm good w/olde time hoops and current hoops and gratefully thankful that the era of bad boys that has its roots in KMc's clothes-lining Superman (which won the Finals for the C's, indeed) is o - v - e - r, dead and buried.

I think he can be a great bench player already without the need to improve on anything. It's not like Harden and CP3 initiates every single play so Melo can get plenty of touches. And whatever one thinks of Melo, he's a better playmaker than everyone else on this team except Eric Gordon on his good day (which he's inconsistent at).

However, I think it's clear that there is some expectation from players and Melo himself to play in crunch time, and also just as clear that the Rockets ceiling will greatly depend on whether he can finish games against the Warriors. And that will depend on his defense. I know people thinks there's no chance he can be a good defender, but everyone said this of Harden before last year too. I don't think it's out of the question for Melo to be capable on defense if he works hard enough to be in shape and communicate.

Soooooo nobody thinks harden can play SF???

    Nobody??!

I’d hate for EGO to be put in a awkward spot!

I have Gordon, Ennis and Green taking all of the minutes at the 3. PJ and Melo at th 4. I don’t see how any of Melos minutes can come at the 3 spot. So....

Melo will play 4 and 5. The guy looks alot slimmer than he has been in years. I think he is going to have a break out year!

I guess you missed the spare tire he was rocking under his red hoodie jersey at the Bahamas. He is no where near in shape.

I don't think that will be the reason that he get less minutes, it will mainly depend on how effective he is on the court, we can always slide Tucker to the center and play small ball line up
