It was a tight at bat and not that bad at all from McHugh... I don’t like taking a guy out who isn’t doing too bad... you never know what you’re gonna get from the pen. I didn’t like it at all. Didn’t work out that well either.
Because he is elite and he can get strikeouts. We lost games to the Sox and Yankees in part because our pen lacked the stuff to face elite hitters. Pressly has the stuff and needs to be in there. Win or lose this game it is better than losing 2-0 and being a b**** again like we have too often. We scored some runs and we fought back.
He's elite enough for them to come into the game a combined 7-9 against him. You play matchups in baseball, they weren't good matchups for him.
You should know exactly what you get from your studs in the pen. McHugh was to come in if the game was still 2-1 or tied. Once they took the lead, Hinch started getting Pressly ready, but I guess he wasn’t warm enough in time, and McHugh was already ready.
Sample size.... if the sample size was 50 at bats over multiple years then maybe you consider a change. However who do you bring in? No one out there is better.... and it was the 7th, not 8th. My only issue with the pen to start this year and through the first few months was that our pen seemed to struggle against elite offensive players a little more than they should. Luhnow did a masterful job improving the quality of the pen. On a side note.... Morrow is likely out the rest of the year.... the former KC closer that Nats got is out the year.... Britton has struggled. Luhnow got it RIGHT.
