Springer getting hot would be a significant deal even if correa stays dormant. That just might be enough...
Valdez is pitching into a ton of good luck with all of these walks so far. He won't survive without throwing strikes. Having said that, the movement on his pitches look extremely hard to square up or elevate, and his breaking ball is a legit out pitch. If they can just get him to throw more strikes early in the count he could be a rock solid starter. Getting behind in the count and giving away free walks will eventually get you lit up.
Was busy tonight unfortunately and wasn’t able to catch the game live. Glad to win another and maintain some separation from Oakland
Other than the 3 HR game DS game, and game 5's HR... people forget that Altuve had a pretty mediocre playoffs. Springer also was mediocre till games 2-7 of the WS. Correa actually had a very productive playoffs, and if you include his 2015, has been a remarkable post-season player. They're not all going to be on fire at the same time... but this is the ultimate benefit of having 4 stellar hitters who bat consecutively. They're also not going to all be cold at the same time.
sign me up for mediocre any day if someone hits 5 homeruns with an.425 avg, 8 walks and 16 hits in the alds and alcs combined. I remember doing this as we entered game 6 of the world series, but go to MLB. com's post season stats for the AL, and scroll back in seasons to compare jose's overall playoff stats to every other player that played to at least the ALCS. You're going to be scrolling back pages. One thing is consistent, the more games you play in the post season the more your ops goes down. So for Jose to have that 1.021 for 18 games was Incredible not mediocre. His performance was one not seen in the AL since big papi's 2013 run. that's 4 years, a world cup, an eternity in baseball. . Though I agree that many guys will have to get hot at the right time.
I think tony kemp is playing his way into a starting left field spot for the playoffs. Its him or marwin. Kemp has been stellar in the 9 hole.
Right now, I am just looking for a pulse with Correa. If he can start stringing together a few decent games, then he can be a threat to break out. Right now he looks like a corpse at the plate.
Again, I said other than the two games that accounted for 4 out of his 5 post-season HR’s. It’s a small sample size... which gets affected by both extremes... which was my point when claiming certain players need to be hot or not for this team to win it all.
Using words like “no pulse” and “corpse” just seem a little but like you may not actually be watching the games. He’s decidedly “not hot”. He’s drawn some walks in key moments. Produced with the bases loaded a handful of times. And solid singles up the middle, or solid contact the opposite way, are starting to occur each game. He may never get red-hot.... but there’s some gray area between that and “corpse” that still warrants his place in the lineup.
Fair enough. Overstated a bit on my part. Sure I want him in the lineup. He has to be to work through this. The part most concerning to me is that he has had 82 AB's since coming back from the DL and his struggles continue.
