I could not find the entire audio, but here is a transcript of the taped phonecall. It is bizarre, especially, to hear Trump use his standard talking points about how great he is, during a one-on-one phonecall. I think he may actually believe he is the greatest president ever, bar none. At some point marketing mind takes over the whole mind perhaps? What a weird phonecall, between 45 and a two-time Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist.

So you have never trusted the judgement of any of the previous US presidents?

No, that's not what I said, I said that there were previous presidents that I didn't trust either. I didn't trust Obama's judgement, I didn't trust George W. Bush's judgement after he brought back Rumsfeld to screw up another war, there were times I didn't trust quite a few presidents but it's not true to say that I never trusted any of them.

When it comes to Trump, I trust Mattis and I think Trump trusts him. So far it has worked out pretty well all things considered.

In fairness I am not sure Trump could have handled it much differently. He was put on the spot and it was an uncomfortable situation all the way around.

Thanks B-Bob. When I hit the link, I get the transcript, and the entire 11 minute call is embedded in the picture on top. (Sorry. I'm a tech dinosaur and haven't figured out how to embed or link. I will learn.) I think listening to it gives a different flavor than the transcript. They both treated each other decently despite the complete awkwardness of the moment.

Trump's base has gotten exactly what they wanted policy wise including a tax cut.

    Liberals exit the vacuum

How was he put on the spot? The guy was calling to say he made every effort but couldn't reach him. Nothing more.

Because asking him even the most elementary question would technically be putting him on the spot.

If you trust Mattis, and given his reported comment that Trump has the understanding of "a fifth or sixth grader." , then Trump is unfit to be President (unless you think its fine for someone with the understanding of a kid to be ruling the US)?

This brings up an important point moving forward (for anyone who really cares): watch what people deny, along with what they do not deny, from the book.

The way yall are salivating for another Woodard Watergate is ridiculous. The CIA has nothing but im sure Bob does. Looks like all this is is Woodard's last stand.

Hey Bob we could have used you on WMDs a couple of presidencies ago. You're still a legend. Seriously

I may be a "silly goose", but it sure seemed that trump ran (and was partly elected) on NOT being a "politician." And sorry, but I don't believe politicians should say or do anything to defend themselves. Yet we are finding that trump will say or do anything to defend himself from what are increasingly serious accusations.

But what I do find shocking is how easily his voters/supporters/defenders accept his constantly changing stories and lies. Not just those here on D&D, but in congress and other positions of importance. Not just the lies (though how horrible is it that we simply ignore or accept the constant lying), not just the offensive things he says, but the outright criminal things he says and does... in a very recent tweet he outright says his attorney general should not prosecute congressmen just because they are republicans.

Again... you can call me "silly" for thinking the president of the United States should be held to a higher standard than this...

And... folks familiar with Woodward's work suggest he tapes most of his interviews...

Watching Today Show. They love the drama.

He is winning. The White House is a reality show. Trump loves the turmoil. This book isnt about crime its about chaos. Whats new, we have been watching the same story for a year and 8 months

This is how Trump has operated since he was a teenager. He got away with it then because he was born into wealth. He go away with it when he was in business because of his celebrity, and he’s gotten away with it now because of the presidency.

Will it ever catch up to him?? (that he’s ignorant, an idiot, surrounded by disloyal hyenas doing unethical to illegal things to benefit only Trump) .... I don’t know. He’s never had Bob Mueller, The SDNY, and possible a majority Democratic House with subpoena power able to bring his corruption to sunlight.

So yeah... this time it actually might catch up to him and this time he doesn’t just have to pay a few lawyers here and there, and keep a few friends at the FBI linked with Giuliani to look the other way like he did the past 20 years. This time he’ll have to basically be an authoritarian who upends the rule of law with the help of his party and potentially corruption on the high court.

The stakes have never been where they are now for Trump, and I think he has no idea how this is different then when the IRS sent a letter and his taxes and he made a few calls, or whatever. This man has real problems and unfortunately his problems now become our problems now that 40% of American voters thought it was a good idea to vote in the most unqualified, worst tempered person to ever sit in the Oval Office.

Thanks guys! Way to own the libs!

Winning what? Why is it seem as something positive turning the White House into an elementary school playground? I don't understand this thinking.
