Honestly, this is a very good deal for the Rockets. First off, I was really high on Melton. I really believed he could have been another one of those diamonds Morey has the ability to find late in drafts. But I think it’s pretty clear that Melton was also very high on himself and was probably threatening to take a 1 year deal and enter RFA next year (see KJ McDaniels) instead of a longer term, team friendly contract. With the Rockets MO of flexibility, having money and time tied up to a RFA offer on a 1st year player next year could prove to be a headache Morey was not willing to take. Also, kudos to Ryno for being so professional. I think all Rockets fans grew tired of him, his contract and wanted him gone but he never said anything negative about the team or organization when it was clear the Rockets were moving on from him. He’s a class act that deserve the contract he got even if it was an overpay. Now onto Knight and Chriss. Knight is coming off a torn ACL and does have a history of very uneven play but he’s definitely an upgrade to our back up PG position. We definitely have someone who could afford CP3 and even Harden and Gordon more time to rest. He’s way more capable of an offensive threat than MCW which makes me wonder if the Rockets plan to use MCW as more of a wing player when given time, which is very interesting. Chiss is definitely the most interesting piece though. At 21, the potential is there right in front of his face. Will he grab it or let his pass him? He can be our starting SF of the future which is nice considering the age of the team; it’s always nice to have a young collection of talent. I won’t be surprised if he ends up starting for us if he can mature his game up a bit. Playing on a winning team with 2 HOF playmakers is setting him up the best we can for him to succeed. Biggest thing for me is that we didn’t have to give up a 1st to get rid of Ryno’s contract! That’s huge as it opens up a lot of possibilities now that we have all our 1st in our pocket. Losing Melton sucks but getting 2 guy that could fit in our rotation, one of whole is only 21 is huge.
Yeah except the dude cost us as he left as well (Melton). Anderson = Worst Morey signing ever. Even worse than Lin.
Ive completely accepted that. The thing is, if that contract is not going to be moved for a significant piece, then just eat it and develop who you considered a top 15 talent. These two contracts aren’t getting that piece, and we’ll eat them for 2 years. I’d rather have ate Ryno and kept Melton.
Chriss is not bad at all. He can pick and pop, pick and roll, shoot the three occasionally, defend, and dribble. He has the tools. Brandan Knight is insurance I Guess, but I'm sure coach will utilize him. Kudos victory cigar!
Brandon Knight is the Eric Gordon of injury comebacks just watch. He’s gonna be great off our bench. We’re a way better team this year without a doubt and still have some of the MLE. We’re gonna wreck this buyout market to
You must be the world’s biggest pessimist if you think a late second rounder was our best chance to improve. This is Donte Green 2.0, embrace it. Let’s revisit this topic next June.
Well Chriss was actually a top 15 talent just a couple years later. This is kinda like those TRob and Twill trades a few years back. From everything I've seen, all of Chriss' problems were attitude and BBIQ based. Earl Watson was supposedly a really bad enabler. Maybe a change of scenery will help him mature. He still has more upside than Melton imo and Knight was pretty good when he was healthy he might actually do something.
Take Melton’s name out of it, and we unloaded Ryno at the cost of a second. Much better than most thought possible. Chriss’ **** shot chart tho.... http://nbasavant.com/img/image.php
Chriss can catch lobs.. so now the Rockets not only have 48 minutes of HOF PG play, they have 48 minutes of constant lob threats. Harden and CP3 might make this dude into an all star.
Nene isn’t retiring. He was dealing with low key injuries. He still has some time to give. If you noticed he played well at start of season then faded due to his injuries
