Across the board continual raises ends up paying more to people based on tenure and not productivity. People should get a raise when they deserve it and when their productivity level reflects it and when they have other opportunities willing to compensate more for that service. 2% raises year after year for nothing along with extraordinarily generous benefits packages is why you have so many people game the government and are making more in retirement from multiple pensions than they ever did working.
Well, probably not. Just like it's not surprising that those less fiscally responsible think that this is the end of the world.
You understand what inflation is right???? Tenure is actually compensated more through promotion in government jobs.
I've dealt enough with it to know it leads to the government paying more to contractors because they can't fill their internal needs. Fiscal responsibility cuts the amount of work needed if you want to make cuts to workers.
So in your mind there is going to be a mass exodus of lazy ass federal workers simply because they aren't getting a raise this year? Really? You think that many people want to give up the "good enough for government work" mentality and head back to the private sector where there are performance standards? Fair enough, I could be wrong, but I just don't see it.
What a load of crap. Both government and private have both hard workers and lazy workers. What happens is employees feel cheated by moves like this. My mom is a section chief for the DoD and they have been struggling to retain employees for years. They can't keep people long term.
Every sector has hard workers, but you won't find many situations with more lazy workers than when dealing with either federal employees, state employees, or union workers. That's the lazy trinity. Again, that doesn't mean that you won't find bad ass employees in all of those situations, but your expectation should be that you'll be dealing with worthless employees when stuck dealing with employees from those 3 situations. Basically the harder it is for an employee to lose their job, the more likely it will be for them to be worthless and in those 3 situations, employees have by far the most job security. When it comes to highly specialized federal employees, you might have some trouble filling those positions, but when you consider that the average federal employee makes something like 78% more than the average private sector worker when you factor in benefits....then factor in job security and I can't imagine they'll have THAT much trouble.
Justify it however you want but people should be compensated more when they are more productive. Wages have stagnated in many industries over the last 20 years but government workers are making more due to these arcane cola adjustments. Adjust your productivity and the money will follow. If the government isn't paying enough then they can move to other divisions or other private companies.
We can't expect private companies to do the right thing but we expect our own federal government to adjust wages due to cost of living. And this isn't a "justification". It is literally what the pay increase is intended for.
Good lord. The usual Trumpies trying to make this a “pull up your bootstraps” argument when they completely ignore the fact that performance is arbitrary in a government position. If they do well in their jobs, people aren’t paying more in taxes or buying into the “tax payer gold club”. They don’t get bonuses for hitting quota. Seriously ... F anyone here trying to make arguments on behalf of giving 1.5 trillion in tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations who don’t need it ON THE COUNTRY’S CREDIT CARD but couldn’t muster up the needed budget to pay for government employees to keep up with the insane inflation and cost of living/ healthcare that keeps going through the roof with Trump.
Do you know that inflation is currently 2.9% annually (highest its been since 2012). That means even with the 2% raise government employees are losing ground.
The ******* and his ******* sycophants in Congress are busy digging a hole into the heart of what has made this the great country we live in. Don't think that people haven't noticed. Independents, large numbers of the elderly, and many Republicans, the ones that don't stay at home, will vote "Blue." Wait and see. The Social Security safety net is very important to them. A huge number of people seeing retirement closer than those college days they enjoyed so much are including SS in their retirement plans, along with other assets. They want to protect and keep it and they don't want benefits slashed. Same with Medicare and Medicaid. ******* in Chief, trump, gives a gigantic budget busting tax cut to the rich and corporations. One trillion dollars won't be coming into the federal coffers over the next 10 years. At least. It's not going to "trickle down" to the average middle and working class American. That theory has been exploded for a very long time. And before someone babbles inanely about today's economy doing so well, hell, it was doing terrific when President Obama left office. Inflation was very, very low. Guess what. It's going up, as are interest rates, thanks to trump, and a GOP Congress doing nothing but running scared, sucking up to the madman. Mr. trump and the GOP Congress are raping and looting our country. They don't give a damn about the average person in the United States. Not a tinker's continental damn. In my humble opinion.
So, the federal employees who are already making 78% more than the average private sector employee when you include benefits is "losing ground"? The horror.
It isn't highly specialized, it is college educated where DoD struggles. Yes, the DoD pays very well for those without a degree.
Let's see . . . . 1. The government sucks because they have some of the laziest crappiest people 2. Because they are the laziest crappiest people we should not pay them much 3. If you want the best you have to pay the best . . . . If you believe all of those . . . . . then that means you really don't want the best in government to begin with This is once again an attempt to destroy the government from within Rocket River
