If the Rockets could get a pick or young player to offset Deng's corpse, maybe. But giving up what in return?
Deeks' article only mentions Deng with the Rockets as it relates to being waived/stretched by the Lakers. It would then be a Vet Min contract to be a backup PF.
Yeah, I just saw that and was about to edit my original post. You're too quick on the draw, Deuce, but thanks for helping me pad my post count. On to 16,000!
We want Luol Deng for the same reasons that we want Nick Yang: to satisfy Chinese fans and give Zhou Qi a role model.
Hope the Lakers aren't too attached to Kyle Kuzma/Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart if they plan to dump Deng on us.
I feel like Knight could be a piece that is flipped soon. All the trade talks we had with Anderson can now be replaced with Knight who makes 5 mill per less then Anderson and plays a combo guard position. What does Knight + 1st net us? A Johnson? Maybe Simmons/Augustin? Bazemore? Keep F5’ing to find out!
This was HUGE and I believe a step up trade. The world has changed and a lot of things are possible now and not BS. We stepped up a negative and toxic asset with a potential positive asset and retained the majority of our assets. If we can show that Knight is healthy and playing well that is a starting PG on another team and a positive asset in trade on a not unreasonable contract. Him + 2 1sts and other assets affords us the ability to do a lot of damage. If he can contribute anything close to EGo (and I love EGo) then now you have the ability to dangle him or EGo + 1sts for the piece we really need and not have it be a sideways trade.
Haha. You got the team right. Not the players. There is a bit of a difference between an expiring Tyson Chandler and 2 years of Brandon Knight. But it’s that slow time of the summer so I’ll give you props for guessing the correct team. Respect
Gordon, Knight, Chriss and picks for Butler, Dieng. That should be the next step. Hopefully Chriss and Knight will show enough before the trade deadline to increase their trade value. Knight gives the Wolves the backup point guard they lack. Chriss would fit well next to KAT, pretty much replace Dieng's minutes. Knight's contract is a year shorter than Dieng's.
Gordon and Knight for Butler is a sideways trade. The whole point of getting Knight from Anderson is that now you have the ability to trade Gordon OR Knight for something. The power of our team was our three guard rotation that locked down 96 minutes a game. No other team had that capability. We want to improve the 3&D wing but not at the expense of losing all of our depth. I don't think we get Butler but I can at least listen to the offers now and that was impossible before. I think Butler is on the move but although we improved our assets drastically we are still outgunned. I would love a Knight + X package to get us Butler but I don't even believe a Gordon + X package wins the day over the competition. That is a lot for a rental that may want to play with Kyrie in NY. Maybe at the deadline that works to our advantage with the Wolves but I doubt it. The Wolves are over the cap so losing Butler is a death nail. HYPOTHETICALLY: If we feel we need to take Butler+Dieng as a poison pill that others won't do then we need to move Knight, Chriss, player traded for Nene+$2,684,186, and player signed to full TPMLE to make that work just from a salary perspective. That seems awful difficult and do the Wolves have two free roster spots at the time of trade? It becomes impossible when you consider we would have to make two of those moves now just to be able to consummate it near the deadline. Would they want those players? You would almost have to do a non-simultaneous trade first for Butler with picks and Knight and Chriss in November and then a separate trade later for Dieng and picks for the mystery players. That would give them the time to work out the roster spots but that is the only conceivable way I think that trade could benefit us and I have never heard of that happening before. They would want our picks so that we keep our word. We would let them keep our picks because we like the players we have better than Dieng's contract so... I would definitely prefer to offer Knight, Chriss, 2 1sts for Butler but I just don't see that beating any other offers. We could make the offer right now as part of a 3-way and it is not happening so that tells you something. I am sure some version of the Phoenix trade has been available since before Knight went down just like Ryno has been available.
If the Rockets are interested......Luol Deng looks like he will be available. (That said.....Thibs.......)
