DeSantis said that he didn't come up with that phrase to imply Gillum was a monkey and doesn't understand how anyone could think so. He says he paid a high priced ad agency for that phrase and that they tried to charge him an arm and a leg but, "he Jewed 'em down." [rimshot]
There are several more common phrases that would have better conveyed what he claims he meant DeSantis either said what he wanted to say or is too stupid to know what he was saying DeSantis said exactly what he wanted to say and knew exactly what it meant in every sense, this is shown by his not apologizing and not withdrawing the statement but trying to defend it. Thus it can be said he was being racist and trying to get away with it like his idol the dotard often tried to. Of course, it shouldn't be surprising then that some other racists would be going around trying to defend it.
Both options - blatant, code speaking racist, or half-witted malapropist inadvertant race baiter - strike me as inherently dangerous in their own way. I want neither man to head my government. One is an openly malicious evil POS, the other is an unexploded landmine on a public street. So even if I 100% believe his "oops" explanation (I don't), I want him nowhere near my state capital. This, of course, probably means he'll win in a landslide.
Watching the clip it seems totally benign. Awkward phrasing, but not malicious or racist. I'll save my outrage.
This obviously wasn't racist. Just an unfortunate phrasing. But the recreational outrage is people's favorite thing right now, so they ignore the context completely. It's almost like they want him to be racist, just so they have something to talk about.
~ an hour after this interview, the Fox News anchor issued this statement "A little while ago, we had Ron DeSantis, the Republican nominee for governor in Florida on for an interview to discuss the Florida election," "During the interview, when discussing about his opponent, he first praised Gillum as articulate and impressive, and then summed it up w "but let's not monkey it up" "We do not condone this language ........." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...one-monkey-up-comment-black-candidate-1138242 perhaps, Fox News has leaned from previous blunders, when one of its frequent guest, David Bossie, former Deputy Campaign manager for Trump made this comment, "he is outta his cotton-picking mind", in reference to black Democratic Party strategist Joel Payne
I don't know if he was trying to be racist (However, no one should give a Trump supporter the benefit of the doubt), but I think it is absolutely hilarious how everyone has pounced. This is straight of of the Republican/conservative Slander playbook. Republicans do this all the time in their smear campaigns against their opponents. I don't think Gillum wanted to respond; he passed it off to a spokesperson to respond. I'm all for a progressive playing dirty even if this fell into their lap.
Next he'll say the monkeys are running the prison and BobboTheClown can explain why it's a harmless colliquialism.
White privilege poster. The irony is that if the shoe were on the other foot the white genociders would be falling out if the sky in a rage.
Riiiight. I encourage you to use monkey references in all your conversations about your black co-workers. Let me know how that pans out Breitbarter.
The guy is a fool. This is true of anyone whose main calling card is identifying as a Trump clone. I don't think there's much debate in that. However, I can't believe he is stupid enough to deliberately say this so early in the game. He and his handlers know this will energize the other side. The downside is huge. The upside is close to nil. For his spokesman to pretend as if he can't understand why people object to the choice of words, he's lying through his teeth. If Fox News understood, he does also. This might be a fun race to watch. The leftist Dem shouldn't have much of a chance here but the idiot Trumpkin might blow it. If this is competitive down the stretch, poo is going to fly all over the place!
